Hi, I just discovered this board today and am very excited to dive into all the posts. I just had a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer for me. I have primarily only listened to Sirius radio over the last couple of years and tried to always catch the AT40 on 70's on 7, but was never fulfilled due to the fact that they edited the shows by playing no LDD and such that contained songs from the 50's and 60's. Yesterday I happened to have "terrestrial" radio on and heard that the countdown was on 6am Saturday on WOGL Philadelphia. So I set the alarm and listened to the show today with great joy since the mid-80's are my impressionable years. The questions I have are:
1. Do all the stations across North America play the same countdown over the same weekend? 2. Are there stations that just play the 70's or 80's countdown or do they play both in an every other week fashion? 3. I recorded this morning's show now I just had to edit out the commercials. Is there anywhere on this site or somewhere else where you can download past shows? 4. Does anyone know of stations like WOGL that both play the classic AT40 and are in the iTunes radio lists?
Thanks for everything!!

1. Do all the stations across North America play the same countdown over the same weekend? They're supposed to. Occasionally, there'll be a station or two that screws up and plays a different show on a given weekend. You'll hear about it when it happens, though. 2. Are there stations that just play the 70's or 80's countdown or do they play both in an every other week fashion? There's stations that play just either the 70s or the 80s, there's a couple of stations that switch between the 70s and the 80s (like WGHN and WHNN, both normally do the 70s but both are actually doing this week's 80s show instead), AND there's stations that play BOTH the 70s and the 80s - most of those play the 70s and 80s back-to-back. Check out the 70s and 80s station list threads - a full list of affiliates is listed on the first page of each thread, and they're updated regularly as stations drop the show, pick up the show, or change the timeslot. 3. I recorded this morning's show now I just had to edit out the commercials. Is there anywhere on this site or somewhere else where you can download past shows? Nope. BIG no to that one. 4. Does anyone know of stations like WOGL that both play the classic AT40 and are in the iTunes radio lists? I can't field this one since I'm not much of an iTunes user, but I'm sure someone else can. And, 5. ... welcome to the board!

Watch the boards (you will see the main 3) and you will learn a ton...When recording XM, it took me a long time before I realized you can quickly adjust volume down and back up to keep logged in to the player. The best streams for the 80's shows are Clear Channel players (you will see) and the station that seems to NOT botch (until last two weeks) up the shows in WQSR (JACKFM) from Baltimore. There are a few close seconds... As far as DLs, of course nowhere to do, but a guy can build a collection pretty fast with 3 shows a weekend! I have not seen a lot about ipod uploads here - I use Sony Walkmans, they're great.

I just realized that the one from this morning cut out the first hour. What is the point of this? Why not play the whole show? I guess I have to look at only 4 hour shows from now on.

atfanmpls how do you get 3 shows a weekend? Are you counting one from XM and then one from the 70's and 80's on the streaming radio? What do use to do your recording? Thanks!!

Yes, Premier's 70, 80's and XM. Back in the day, there were 4 different shows per weekend. It can be quite a time and scheduling commitment! I play out of a laptop with 1/8" x 1/8" stereo cord to premium soundcard on my PC. Record as loud as possible without clipping - and I like to hear what is playing. I capture with Roxio 9, edit with an easy-to-use Roxio Creator 7.

Thanks!! as mentioned already....premiere 70s, 80s and sirius/XM 70s are all 3 different shows. My local station runs 70s and 80s and I have sirius in the car, so I can record all 3 if I want with no conflicts...but I only consider recording specials. I don't think AT40 nostalgia is going anywhere anytime soon. as for recording, any PC's line in jack off a radio/appropriate audio source should suffice with a wave recorder/editor like audacity of free audio editor (both are free) or better will work. as commerical radio is so audibly squashed (sirius's internet stream isn't as bad) you can set levels high (I usually go -6 to -3 usually) and let it go. no concern for clipping. As the majority of this material is sourced from vinyl in the first place, it's already been processed...

cleary71....I was new once but the guys on this board know their stuff and you learn a whole lot over time....don't worry you'll get the hang of things. BTW as you build you archive of AT40 shows you might even find others willing to trade..so keep your eyes open.

I feel the streamed iheartradio/clear channel shows sound better than any over-the-air broadcast. FM/AM is frequency stripped to me, listen to any FM station vs. CDs? Growing up with FM, was never a full sound compared to the vinyl (or even cassette).

My sound source ultimate would be straight from vinyl. There's NOTHING like it!
I use WBBG out of Ohio for the 70's & 80's airings. They don't play the extras, but then again I don't really want them because they aren't "the way you heard it back then"!

Growing up with FM, was never a full sound compared to the vinyl (or even cassette). No doubt--the iheartradio streams seem to be the safest bet for both the Premiere 70's and 80's shows. Not saying there aren't other good non-iheart stations, but we have had the best luck with those. And I agree, over the air isn't quite as good (we have a local station here--KQQL--that plays the 70's shows). The one nice thing is that you never have to worry about dropouts with the off-air FM signals!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I know there will be some growing pains on my end, like three dropped streams during this week's attempts at the 80's show. I hope you don't mind me asking basic questions. Thanks again!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I know there will be some growing pains on my end, like three dropped streams during this week's attempts at the 80's show. I hope you don't mind me asking basic questions. Thanks again! Ask away! BTW, dropped streams will be your biggest headache when it comes to getting these shows online. The trick is to a) find a station that doesn't drop or at least not very often, and b) get multiple copies of the show from a few different stations. That way, unless you get dropouts in the same places, you can patch in the audio from one to fill the gap in the other (for instance, I use WQSR as my main show, but also get WMMX and sometimes a third--either WMLX or WNNS, so this past weekend I was able to replace WQSR's botched cut into Sussudio at #2 with WMMX who cut it correctly).
