First time poster here... I have wondered for awhile what was the most played "Long Distance Dedication" song, but I could not find the answer on these boards, so I did the research myself. Using the information at www.angelfire.com/music4/at40coc/ldd.html, and limiting my search to the Casey years (1978-1988), I compiled a spreadsheet of all the songs played during that time. After resolving duplicates, mispellings, etc., here's what I found... Here are the songs that were played at least 7 times as a LDD: Through The Years - Kenny Rogers (17) Greatest Love Of All - Whitney Houston (11) Thank You For Being A Friend - Andrew Gold, Three Times A Lady - The Commodores (10) Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce, You Needed Me - Anne Murray, You're The Inspiration - Chicago (9) You've Got A Friend - James Taylor/Carole King (8) Endless Love - Diana Ross/Lionel Richie, Hard To Say I'm Sorry - Chicago, Just Remember I Love You - Firefall, Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel, This One's For You - Barry Manilow, The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me - Gladys Knight & The Pips (7) And here are the artists with 13 or more LDD appearances: Barry Manilow 36 Chicago 29 Kenny Rogers 29 The Beatles 28 Billy Joel 18 The Commodores 18 Elton John 15 Journey 15 Diana Ross 13 Neil Diamond 13 I only counted artists as listed, e.g. the 28 songs for the Beatles do not include songs credited to any of the Beatles' solo hits. However, it's worth noting that John Lennon has the most LDDs of any solo Beatle, with 6. Also, Diana Ross has 13 LDDs solo, 5 with the Supremes, and 7 with Lionel Richie for 25 total. Lionel Richie has 11 solo, 18 with the Commodores, and 7 with Diana Ross, for 36 total, which would tie Barry Manilow.

Without looking at the list, my choice for most-played LDD artist would have been Lionel Richie. I would not have guessed Barry Manilow though.

If you include the Premiere and Westwood One years you’d likely have Somewhere Out There and some Celine Dion stuff win the contest

What was the lowest charting song to get the most LDDs? For example You're A Part of Me peaked at a modest #36 but it seemed to get numerous LDD requests over the years. Of those listed, "This One's For You" only peaked at #29 and "Thank You For Being a Friend" at #25 (it's easy to think it was a much bigger hit, probably because of the Golden Girls.) It seems that "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "I Will Always Love You" were also used constantly in the 1990s and 2000s.

I never cared for the LDDs, but at least in the 80s it meant that you’ll get a unique “extra” that you otherwise wouldn’t hear on the show. By the mid 90s through 2003, I feel like there were 10 or so songs on a loop and the letters were more canned than ever. And to make things worse, we had 3 a show! Then in 2004 the number of dedications per show went to two and then in 2005 to one and we got a wider variety of song choices again.

"Wind Beneath My Wings" seems like it was used as a R&D every other week on Casey's Top 40 there for a while. "Greatest Love of All" was worn out on CT40 R&D picks too in the early years of the show's run.

Lowest peak/most plays ... I would think Linda Clifford earns a mention. "If My Friends Could See Me Now," reached #1 disco/dane in April 1978, but only #54 pop, late September 1978.
It was used as a LDD 1979 09 22 and 1980 01 12.

I remember from one 80's AT40 rerun that one of the LDD songs was a Crystal Gayle song called "You Never Gave Up On Me", which didn't make the Hot 100 at all (although I'm pretty sure it did well on the Country chart).

Looking over the list there were a few popular songs as LDDs that were never singles, like "In My Life" and "Stairway to Heaven."

I think "The Rose" by Bette Midler was played as an LDD frequently enough (maybe more so in the early 80s), but I don't recall hearing it on any AT40 broadcast from November 1986 (when I started listening to full broadcasts regularly) through August 6, 1988, with the exception of a December 1987 show (either December 12, 19 or 26) where an LDD in the first hour was by a die-hard fan who desperately wanted to see Tiffany in person, but never got the chance. It implies he may have been a stalker who had an obsessive crush on her, and it kind of makes me wonder if that guy ended up in jail eventually.
"The Rose" may have been played as an LDD during the Shadoe era, who knows.

On last week's 1983 show Elt's #39 Don't You Wanna Play This Game was featured. Was this the lowest charting top 40 to be a LDD? Top 40s only, I realize there were a few non top 40s, wasn't Babs #43 Somewhere one of them? And I'm not counting album cuts like Stairway to Heaven.
