KZOY is playing 06/04/88 this morning. The sure shot is "Parents Just Don't Understand" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. This show was played last year and this is the 11th time it has aired on retro-Dees.

And here we are , almost Saturday night, and still the app has not been updated. No clue what’s in store for the 2000s countdown.

Apps are finally updated. We get June 4, 1988; June 4,1994; and June 5, 2004, at least from the posted dates. (Haven’t listened to any of them yet.)

Wow, I’m amazed... The D2k show is in fact from the weekend of 6/5/04. CHR Version. And this is the first time the year 2004 has ever been featured on the series. Now if only he could switch things up with the other decades...

Overall, I really enjoyed the 2004 show. All but six songs are the same as the R&R chart (#s 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18). The oldest song, "With You," has only been around for 25 weeks and will be gone the following week. The "Hi Bias" remix of "8th World Wonder" is much better than the original. I'd forgotten that "I'm Ready" samples "Urgent." The melody to "I Miss You" would come back on the Hot AC chart as James Arthur's "Can I Be Him" in 2017. "Roses" is not only the worst song of the week but one of the worst I've ever heard in my life. I can't hear "Everytime" without thinking of James Franco singing it in "Spring Breakers." Maroon 5 is the only act who's currently charting today. And as far as I can tell, everyone on this countdown is still alive.

The only artist on that countdown I can think of that is dead is Proof from D12.

Speaking of remixes, the remix of “Leave” by Jojo was just horrible imo... The beat and singing was all off and out of place. Wasn’t a fan at all of the remix. I hope he didn’t play this version for its entirety on the countdown.

I hope he didn’t play this version for its entirety on the countdown. I usually like most of their countdown remixes, but I agree that this one made the song much less enjoyable. I don't think I would have even recognized it as the same song.

We are NOT getting 1989 at all, ever because already it's been skipped this year and partly last year, let's be real Rick dees staff doesn't seem to care for 1989 no matter how many times we request it.

There’s still a glimmer of hope for 1989. The 6/24/89 show was at one time a common repeat (except last year) and that could be upcoming this weekend (following the algorithm they used to do 87,88,...). If we don’t get that show at all this month, I am officially giving up on ever hearing that year ever again on the 80s show. And to respond to a previous comment, I actually like “Roses” by OutKast. I am glad after the “Hey Ya” hit surfaced, they stopped skipping OutKast songs like they did with “Ms. Jackson” in 2001.

And on the app we get another smorgasbord of vintage 1990s commercials--including Rick pitching for Bodycology products and Lipton Original tea.
