What software do you guys use to record the countdowns. Reason I ask is I use Replay A/V and I am having tons of problems with it and was looking into a better solution.

I'm using Replay RV and recording stuff as we speak. Please share with us what kind of problems are you facing, perhaps I could help, you know. I've had a few myself but, Replay RV may not be the direct source of the problem or error.

for starters, my anti virus keeps telling me my replay a/v has a trojan.
secondly i used to be able to record from the station but now i have to record from speakers and i listen to at40 from their website but after the show ends, the software keeps giving me this error:
Total time in track less than 10 seconds -- track will not be saved.

I'm not certain about the first error for sure. But the 2nd one maybe because that station like KIIS and most other Clear Channel stations may not allow you to record it "automatically/timer record" any longer. Unless I know any further information, as far as I know I cannot record from stations that use that "Radio Player" and it seems that all of them are by Clear Channel. Or perhaps your station may have changed the streaming link.

I have used Total Recorder Pro for years now after being not very impressed with the Replay products. Program can be set to automatically record any station as long as you have a URL. Thus, Total Recorder would have problems automatically recording if a site was flash-based where one has to select from one of multiple stations.

I have used various softwares over the years, but for me, Soundtap Streaming Recorder is hands down my favorite. And for editing, I used Wavepad Sound Editor. Both softwares are NCH software products.

total recorder I use for recording any audio stream, and is also good for a basic recorder for when you want to keep computer resources low. It should record anything going through your computer's sound card.
for editing, adobe audition, as it's a broadcast standard these days. poor man's pro tools LOL! sound forge is also a standard to a degree, but audition has multitrack functions built in.
for freeware editors, audacity is hands down a standard personally and professionally. i'm not crazy about it, but you can't beat the price when $$$ count.
the trick for a lot of software is making sure in windows mixer that you are recording to whatever software your using. it can be a pain, but it's critical that you do have things set in the mixer correctly (assuming your using windows) or the software won't work obviously.

I use the Freecorder Toolbar. Took a bit of tweaking at the beginning to get the distortion low enough. I think it sounds good but I havent tried anything more sophisticated/better to compare it to.

I've been using the Freecorder Toolbar also for the last month or so. I haven't had any real problems with it, but I do eventually wanna try Total Recorder because so many people here have been raving about it. Needless to say, it's got me a little curious LOL.

I'd like to change course a bit and talk about soundcards and recording quality. We have 3 computers at home-2 Desktops and a laptop. Both Desktops have different flavours of Realtek Integrated Sound Cards and the sound quality for both listening and recording is ok.
The laptop has a slightly higher end integrated SoundMax soundcard and the sound quality is a lot better that the desktops. The recordings made on this laptop, also have better sound quality when doing 1:1 comparisons with recordings made on either of the desktops, therefore the laptop is what I use for recording.
I have been thinking about buying a better soundcard for one of the desktops. Have any of you installed sound card upgrades? I'm just looking for any brand suggestions from anyone who considers that they have excellent sound quality from their sound card.

that's really opening a can of subjective worms.
better sound card is a matter of opinion. it depends on what you want to do with it, how good your system is, how good your ears are, your speakers, the room you listen in and what you're recording.
no card is better then it's source. if you record a 78 record with lots of scratches, that's what you get. regardless of what card you use.
these days, any card should give you reasonably good quality for playback. for recording, the cheaper cards usually never have good mic preamp inputs, so anything should go through a line level.
I've had great luck with soundblaster products in my machines...high quality cards for those on a budget, like me....then again, my internet stream is using a $20 generic card for audio playback, as it passes through a mixer before encoding, and the card sounds great for what it's doing.
like I say, it's all very subjective.

Question for anyone else using Total Recorder: I read on another thread that you can record multiple shows at the same time as long as it's thru different sources/ browsers. How do you get it to do that? Thanks to anyone that can help. I just started using Total Recorder last month and I'm still working out the kinks.

Recording multiple programs with Total Recorder never worked for me, but then again I never put much effort into it. I suspect checking the option "Mute playback during scheduled job" is required though.
