American Top 40: The 80's---3/9/85
Yeah, I also thought Premiere would wait to do an '85 show 'til We Are The World debuted. Or at least have it as an extra. Oh well, this was still an awesome countdown.
Dropping out of the 40:
OPERATOR - MIDNIGHT STAR (36)--Good, funky little number this one is.
I WANNA HEAR IT FROM YOUR LIPS (35) - ERIC CARMEN--Never heard it before, though I'd probably still prefer "I Can Dream About You" over this one.
YOU’RE THE INSPIRATION - CHICAGO (32)--Great song, one of their absolute best.
ROCKIN’ AT MIDNIGHT - THE HONEYDRIPPERS (31)--Another one I don't know. "Sea Of Love", however, is one of my favorites of the entire decade.
FOOLISH HEART - STEVE PERRY (29)--Great song, probably my favorite of his solo hits.
40: ALONG COMES A WOMAN - CHICAGO--Good song, but I prefer many others by them.
39: THE BOYS OF SUMMER – DON HENLEY--Great song, one of my favorites by him.
38: THE BORDERLINES – JEFFREY OSBORNE--Good song, but I prefer others by him, like "Stay With Me Tonight".
37: RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT - DeBARGE--Great song, the only one of theirs that really gets any airplay these days. Still prefer their slower songs.
36: WHY CAN’T I HAVE YOU – THE CARS--Good song, but I prefer their more well-known hits.
35: THIS IS NOT AMERICA – DAVID BOWIE / PAT METHENY--This is a good one, but I prefer others by him.
34: MISSING YOU – DIANA ROSS--Good song, but I prefer the other Marvin Gaye tribute song in the countdown.

32: OBSESSION - ANIMOTION--Great song, though quite overplayed.
31: TURN UP THE RADIO - AUTOGRAPH--Great song.
30: JUNGLE LOVE – THE TIME--The first time I heard this one a few years ago, I hated it. Now it's one of my favorites.

OPTIONAL EXTRA: CRAZY FOR YOU - MADONNA--Great song, one of her absolute best.
28: NIGHTSHIFT – THE COMMODORES--Great song, the only post-Lionel song I know by them, which is probably a blessing LOL.
27: SOMEBODY – BRYAN ADAMS--Good song, but I prefer others by him.
26: SOLID – ASHFORD & SIMPSON--Great song, love this one.
25: JUST ANOTHER NIGHT – MICK JAGGER--Good song, but, yeah I prefer him with The Stones too.
24: KEEPING THE FAITH – BILLY JOEL--Great song, but I prefer others by him.
23: NAUGHTY NAUGHTY – JOHN PARR--Great song, but I prefer "St. Elmo's Fire".
LDD: UNDERSTANDING – BOB SEGER & THE SILVER BULLET BAND--Great song. What a sad story. After racking my brain, I couldn't figure out who it was, either. I guess it must've been obvious at the time, otherwise Casey wouldn't have said it was.
22: HIGH ON YOU - SURVIVOR--Great song, one of my favorites by them.
21: SAVE A PRAYER – DURAN DURAN--Great song, one of my favorites by them.
20: METHOD OF MODERN LOVE – DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES--Great song, probably my favorite by them. Interesting story about how they first got together.
OPTIONAL EXTRA: ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS DANCE - DON HENLEY--WQSR skipped this one.
Anyway, great song, but I prefer a few others by him.
19: MR. TELEPHONE MAN – NEW EDITION--Good song, but not a big fan of them in general.
18: ONLY THE YOUNG - JOURNEY--Great song, but I prefer others by them.
17: RELAX – FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD--Great song. Way overplayed, but great song nonetheless.
16: EASY LOVER – PHILIP BAILEY WITH PHIL COLLINS--Great song, one of his best.
TRIBUTE: BARBARA COWSILL--The Cowsills were the inspiration for The Partridge Family. I never knew that.
15: PRIVATE DANCER – TINA TURNER--Good song, but I prefer many others by her.
14: ONE MORE NIGHT – PHIL COLLINS--Great song, but I prefer others by him, like the song at #16.
13: THE OLD MAN DOWN THE ROAD – JOHN FOGERTY--Good song, though I prefer "Centerfield" and his CCR stuff.
12: LOVER GIRL – TEENA MARIE--The first of the back-to-back Lover songs in the countdown. I can take or leave this one, but I lean towards leave.
11: LOVER BOY – BILLY OCEAN--Good song, but I prefer a few others by him.
10: MISLED – KOOL & THE GANG--Good song, but I prefer others by them.
OPTIONAL EXTRA: ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK - MURRAY HEAD--I tend to go back and forth with this one. Sometimes I love it, other times I at best tolerate it. Right now, I'm liking it.

LDD: THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE – SIMON & GARFUNKEL--Great song, one of my favorites by them.
5: MATERIAL GIRL - MADONNA--Great song, one of her best.
4: CALIFORNIA GIRLS – DAVID LEE ROTH--Great remake, one of the few where I actually prefer the remake over the original.
3: THE HEAT IS ON – GLENN FREY--The other one from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack in the 40. Great song, one of my favorites by him.
OPTIONAL EXTRA: IN MY HOUSE - MARY JANE GIRLS--Great song, one of my favorite one-hit-wonders.
2: CARELESS WHISPER – WHAM FEATURING GEORGE MICHAEL--Great song, one of my favorites by them.
1: CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING – REO SPEEDWAGON--Great song, one of their absolute best.
For next week, I predict either 1988 or 1980, though 1983 hasn't been heard yet this year I don't think.
