American Top 40--2/14/87
Figured I'd try my hand at this. I have a soft spot for 1987 musically since I was born that year (I was only 2 weeks old when this originally aired), so the fact that they just played an '87 countdown last month doesn't bug me quite as much as other years being repeated like this. Anyway, as Casey would say, on with the countdown!!!!
Droppers: NOTORIOUS - DURAN DURAN (38)--Good song, but not my favorite from them by any stretch IS THIS LOVE - SURVIVOR (34)--Great song, one of my favorites by them WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN (30)--Great song, one of my favorites by them, despite overplay VICTORY - KOOL & THE GANG (29)--Don't really know it, sorry
40: JIMMY LEE - ARETHA FRANKLIN--Not bad, but the Queen Of Soul has had better 39: LET'S GO - WANG CHUNG--Great song, but I prefer "Dance Hall Days" and "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" 38: WITHOUT YOUR LOVE - TOTO--Good song, but I prefer others by them 37: CAUGHT UP IN THE RAPTURE - ANITA BAKER--Great song, one of my favorites by her 36: COME GO WITH ME - EXPOSE--Great song, one of my favorites by them 35: NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW - STARSHIP--Great song, one of my favorites by them (and Mannequin is one of my favorite movies) 34: CANDY - CAMEO--Decent enough, but I prefer "Word Up" TOP 10 CANDIES OF 1986: My favorites out of those are Butterfinger, M&M peanut, Reeses, and Snickers. Yummy!!! 33: FACTS OF LOVE - JEFF LORBER FEATURING KARYN WHITE--I'm liking this one 32: THIS IS THE TIME - BILLY JOEL--Good song, but I prefer his more well-known hits LDD: I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL - JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS--LOL @ Casey "accidentally" playing an opera record at first!!! Anyway, I like this one, but it's way overplayed OPTIONAL EXTRA: TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT - GENESIS--Great song, but I prefer a few others by them 31: CONTROL - JANET JACKSON--Great song, one of my favorites by her 30: LET'S WAIT AWHILE - JANET JACKSON--Wow, back-to-back Janet!!! Anyway, I like this one too 29: BRAND NEW LOVER - DEAD OR ALIVE--Great song, but I prefer their other hit "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" 28: I WANNA GO BACK - EDDIE MONEY--Great song, one of my favorites by him 27: MANDOLIN RAIN - BRUCE HORNSBY & THE RANGE--Great song, but I prefer a few others by him 26: SHAKE YOU DOWN - GREGORY ABBOTT--Eh, it's OK. Just OK. 25: CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE - COREY HART--Good remake, almost has sort of a haunting vibe to it. Though I generally prefer UB40's version, and of course, the original by the King. 24: STAY THE NIGHT - BENJAMIN ORR--Great song!!! 23: C'EST LA VIE - ROBBIE NEVILLE--Great song, but I kinda like "Wot's It To Ya" better 22: TALK TO ME - CHICO DeBARGE--This one's alright. I prefer his siblings' hits, though EXTRA: YOU DON'T BRING ME FLOWERS ANYMORE - NEIL DIAMOND AND BARBRA STREISAND--No, just no OPTIONAL EXTRA: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN - EUROPE--Great song, probably my favorite by them 21: I'LL BE ALRIGHT WITHOUT YOU - JOURNEY--Great song, one of my favorites by them 20: LAND OF CONFUSION - GENESIS--Great song, one of my favorites by them 19: SOMEDAY - GLASS TIGER--Good song, but I prefer their other big hit. 18: RESPECT YOURSELF - BRUCE WILLIS--Uh, no. Stick to acting, Bruce. 17: (YOU GOTTA) FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT (TO PARTY) - THE BEASTIE BOYS--Yes, just yes!!!! 16: BIG TIME - PETER GABRIEL--Great song, one of my favorites by him 15: STOP TO LOVE - LUTHER VANDROSS--Great song, but I prefer a couple others by him 14: SOMEWHERE OUT THERE - LINDA RONSTADT AND JAMES INGRAM--Great song from one of my favorite movies growing up (An American Tail 1) 13: NOBODY'S FOOL - CINDERELLA--Eh, it's decent. Nothing I would go out of my way to hear, however. 12: LOVE YOU DOWN - READY FOR THE WORLD--Good song, but I prefer "Oh Sheila" 11: YOU GOT IT ALL - THE JETS--Great song, one of my favorites by them OPTIONAL EXTRA: LEAN ON ME - CLUB NOUVEAU--Great song!!! I like this version a lot better than the original 10: BALLERINA GIRL - LIONEL RICHIE--Great song, but I prefer a few others by him 9: WE'RE READY - BOSTON--Good song, but I prefer others by them 8: JACOB'S LADDER - HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS--Great song, one of my favorites by him 7: AT THIS MOMENT - BILLY VERA & THE BEATERS--Ugh. No, just no. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than this crap. 6: WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME - CHICAGO--Great song, one of my favorites from them 5: KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF - THE GEORGIA SATELLITES--Great song, a definite guilty pleasure LDD: JUST REMEMBER I LOVE YOU - FIREFALL--Great song 4: TOUCH ME (I WANT YOUR BODY) - SAMANTHA FOXX--Eh, it's OK OPTIONAL EXTRA: THE FINER THINGS - STEVE WINWOOD--Great song, but I prefer a few others by him 3: CHANGE OF HEART - CYNDI LAUPER--Great song, one of my favorites by her 2: OPEN YOUR HEART - MADONNA--See #3 1: LIVIN' ON A PRAYER - BON JOVI--Great song, one of my favorites by them
I predict 1985 or 1986 for next week.

American Top 40: The 80s - February 20, 2010
This week’s presentation: February 22, 1986
Just as several people predicted, they went with 1986 this week. I felt that was a good idea, since it’s the first one of this year, and the last time they did a late 1985 show was in early December. So I’m sure we missed hearing on a few good songs
Droppers: I MISS YOU - KLYMAXX (31) - Great song, though my least favorite of their three Top 40 hits. SIDEWALK TALK - JELLYBEAN (29) - OK song, but I preferred “Who Found Who” with Elisa Fiorello. We missed this song this time around, as it debuted on the chart in late December, 1985 MY HOMETOWN - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (24) - Great song. My favorite song from Born In The USA; shame that it fell off, especially that we missed this one also; it debuted the same week as “Sidewalk Talk”.
LW#1: HOW WILL I KNOW – WHITNEY HOUSTON - I’ll comment on this one a little later on. 40: ROCK ME AMADEUS - FALCO (debut) - This song is just like “The Safety Dance” - my opinion of it depends on the version they play. This week, it was the version with the chronology of Mozart’s life near the beginning, which is the one I like the least (the“Ooh, Rock Me Amadeus” can be embarrassing (yes, I know that’s also in the other version, but it’s only once, and before the song even starts - in this version it’s repeated several times near the beginning). 39: MANIC MONDAY - BANGLES (debut) - Great song, one of their best! 38: NIGHT MOVES – MARILYN MARTIN (debut) - Great song, and quite underrated. 37: WALK OF LIFE – DIRE STRAITS (25) - Great song - one of their best. 36: GO HOME – STEVIE WONDER (16) - Wow, what a big drop! I liked this song, but he’s had several better, including his next hit “Overjoyed” which would chart in the spring. This song, by the way, kicked off AT40's Top 100 of 1986 countdown. 35: LET’S GO ALL THE WAY – SLY FOX (40) - Good song - an 80s mix show essential. 34: ANOTHER NIGHT – ARETHA FRANKLIN (38) - Good song, but she’s had a few better. I went over those on last week’s show. 33: (HOW TO BE A) MILLIONAIRE – ABC (39) - Good song, but I prefer “The Look Of Love”. 32: SAY YOU, SAY ME – LIONEL RICHIE (20) - Good song, though overplayed. OPTIONAL EXTRA: KISS - PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION - Meh, definitely one of my least favorite songs by him. At least they cut the second verse. 31: TALK TO ME – STEVIE NICKS (18) - Good song, though I preferred her next hit, the underrated “I Can’t Wait”. 30: SPIES LIKE US – PAUL McCARTNEY (14) - Good song, though I prefer many others by Paul. 29: BEAT’S SO LONELY – CHARLIE SEXTON (34) - Good song. A perfect example of an 80s one-hit wonder. 28: WHAT YOU NEED – INXS (36) - As we all know, I’m not a huge INXS fan. But this one is pretty good. 27: THIS COULD BE THE NIGHT – LOVERBOY (35) - Great song - one of my favorites from the band. 26: R.O.C.K. IN THE U.S.A. – JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP (37) - Great song - and I liked the story about the name-dropping. 25: HE’LL NEVER LOVE YOU (LIKE I DO) – FREDDIE JACKSON (27) - Good song - pretty much your typical mid-80s slow jam. 24: SANCTIFY YOURSELF – SIMPLE MINDS (33) - Great song. This was my favorite song in the world back in 8th grade starting around the time it peaked. 23: STAGES – ZZ TOP (32) - Great song. I liked all four releases from the Afterburner album. 22: NIKITA – ELTON JOHN (30) - Great song, though far from being my favorite from him. LDD: COME SAIL AWAY – STYX - Great song, and a touching tribute to the members of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew, who lost their lives in the explosion of the spacecraft. 21: DIGITAL DISPLAY – READY FOR THE WORLD (23) - Good song. I’m quite surprised that this song got so high on the Billboard chart, yet failed to chart on R&R. Must have gotten a ton of sales points. OPTIONAL EXTRA: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY - This is the song that started it all off for Janet. 20: THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON T.V. – A-HA (21) - Great song. Reminds me a little of “Chariots Of Fire” for some reason. I still prefer “Take On Me”. 19: RUSSIANS – STING (26) - Good song - I believe it’s melody is based on some classical music piece 18: DAY BY DAY – HOOTERS (28) - Good song, not sure whether I prefer this or “And We Danced”. Oddly enough, despite its ten-spot move this week, the song climbed no higher. I have a feeling it was partially due to vacuum effect, as a lot of songs left the Top 20 this week. 17: KING FOR A DAY – THOMPSON TWINS (22) - Good song, though not my favorite from the “Twins”. 16: TARZAN BOY – BALTIMORA (17) - Great song. Another one-hit wonder of the 80s. 15: CONGA – MIAMI SOUND MACHINE (10) - This song’s OK, but one of my least favorite songs from MSM. 14: THESE DREAMS – HEART (19) - Great song. This song was en route to becoming the band’s first #1 hit ever. 13: I’M YOUR MAN – WHAM (6) - Good song. Little did we know when this song was released, that this would be one of their last hits. 12: A LOVE BIZARRE – SHEILA E. (13) - This song’s OK, but there’s better on this week’s chart. 11: SECRET LOVERS – ATLANTIC STARR (15) - Great song, one of their best 10: THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR – DIONNE & FRIENDS (5) - Great song. I also like Rod Stewart’s version, heard during the end credits of the movie Night Shift. OPTIONAL EXTRA: ADDICTED TO LOVE - ROBERT PALMER - Definitely one of the most overplayed songs of 1986. I briefly fell asleep at this point in the show and missed this song completely, but that’s perfectly alright. 9: BURNING HEART – SURVIVOR (3) - Great song, definitely one of their best. 8: SILENT RUNNING – MIKE & THE MECHANICS (12) - Good song, but I preferred their two follow-ups. 7: LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN – THE DREAM ACADEMY (11) - Great song, easily the best of their two Top 40 hits. 6: THE SWEETEST TABOO – SADE (8) - Though I prefer “Smooth Operator”, this one is good too. LDD: THE SEARCH IS OVER – SURVIVOR - Great song, and very fitting for the dedication. I wonder what video game Arthur was playing when he fell in love with this Wendy that he met at the arcade? 5: LIVING IN AMERICA – JAMES BROWN (7) - Meh, this was OK, but I’m not a big James Brown fan in general. 4: SARA – STARSHIP (9) - Good song, but I sure remember being sick and tired of hearing it everytime I turned on the radio. 3: WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING – BILLY OCEAN (2) - Good song. This song was #1 on the R&R chart two weeks before, mainly due to vacuum effect. LOL @ Casey’s jocular reference to the title (“When The Going Gets Tough, Call the National Geographic), due to his story about the big question about whether the Nile or the Amazon River is longer. OPTIONAL EXTRA: I CAN’T WAIT - STEVIE NICKS - Awesome! I mentioned this one earlier in the show, when they played “Talk To Me”. Anyway, I love this song. As I said earlier, I felt that this song was underrated. 2: KYRIE – MR. MISTER (4) - Good song, though I prefer “Broken Wings” 1: HOW WILL I KNOW – WHITNEY HOUSTON (1) - This song’s OK, but very overplayed.
Predictions for next week: As stated in another thread, I have a feeling that they’ll do a show from 1981 next week. If not, then 1985 is probable. I’m hoping that they play a show with my favorite 1985 chart topper, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon at #1, but I have a feeling they’ll do one from before that song hit #1 (most likely, March 2). We’ll have to wait and see.

23: STAGES – ZZ TOP (32) - Great song. I liked all three releases from the Afterburner album. Actually there were four: "Sleeping Bag", "Stages", "Rough Boy", and "Velcro Fly". All made the top 40. And Sting's "Russians" is in fact adapted from Sergei Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije suite.

John Mellencamp's "R-O-C-K In The USA" is one of three top 40 hits that mention the names of specific recording acts in the lyrics-The first one was "Sweet Soul Music"-Arthur Conley (1967) & "Rock & Roll Heaven"-Righteous Brothers (1974).

I stand corrected (I had forgotten all about Velcro Fly, which is probably my least favorite of the four, though I do like it).

I generally don’t listen to AT40: The 70s, unless it’s something from 1975 on. This week, they went with 1978, so I decided to write a commentary on it. 1978 was a great year in music, especially the early half.
Droppers: BREAKDOWN - TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS (40) - Good song, but not my favorite song by them. GALAXY - WAR (39) - wtf did this sound like again? SERPENTINE FIRE - EARTH WIND & FIRE (31) - I don’t remember how this song goes either, but I know I heard it on the 1978 show back in January, so it probably didn’t make much of an impression on me. STREET CORNER SERENADE - WET WILLIE (30) - wtf did this sound like again? DESIREE - NEIL DIAMOND (27) - Ah, the very first Long Distance Dedication song! But I must say - wtf did this sound like again?
40: IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU – YVONNE ELLIMAN (debut) - Great song! One of my favorites from her as well as the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. 39: LADY LOVE – LOU RAWLS (debut) - Great song! One of his best! 38: FLASHLIGHT – PARLIAMENT (debut) - Meh, kind of blends in with all the disco that was popular around this time. 37: TOO HOT TA TROT – THE COMMODORES (24) - Not one of their best! 36: POOR POOR PITIFUL ME – LINDA RONSTADT (debut) - Pretty good song. I don’t ever remember hearing this one before! 35: EBONY EYES – BOB WELCH (debut) - Great song! Not sure if I prefer this or “Sentimental Lady”. 34: DUST IN THE WIND - KANSAS (38) - Great song! One of my favorites from them! 33: GOODBYE GIRL – DAVID GATES (37) - Another great song! One of his best, with or without Bread. 32: JACK & JILL - RAYDIO (36) - I know I sound like a broken record, but this is also a great song, and one of their best. The story about Stevie Wonder calling him repeatedly sounded very familiar. I believe I heard it on last year’s August, 1981 show. 31: OUR LOVE – NATALIE COLE (35) - Wow, what’s with all the songs moving up four spots? Anyway, I like the song - when I first heard the beginning of Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose”, right away I thought of this song’s piano intro. 30: DON’T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD – SANTA ESMERALDA (15) - Great remake of the old Animals’ classic (I’m surprised that version only got to #15 - it sure gets a lot of airplay on oldies stations). 29: ALWAYS & FOREVER - HEATWAVE (33) - Great song! One of the most popular love songs of all time! 28: FALLING – LeBLANC & CARR (32) - Great song! Too bad it was their only hit. Interesting story about how they almost flew in the plane that crashed and killed several members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. OPTIONAL EXTRA: SPILL THE WINE – ERIC BURDEN & WAR - Good song. At first, I thought they nixed it from the broadcast, but they decided to use it as the first optional extra. It was originally placed between #38 and #37. I liked the story of how Eric Burden came up with this song. 27: CAN’T SMILE WITHOUT YOU – BARRY MANILOW (34) - Good song. This is one of many songs that I remember from their original chart run. 26: THE WAY YOU DO THE THINGS YOU DO – RITA COOLIDGE (28) - Great rendition of the old Temptations classic. 25: THEME FROM CLOSE ENCOUNTERS - MECO (25) - Good song. Meco sure did a lot of good renditions of movie themes. 24: WONDERFUL WORLD – ART GARFUNKEL WITH JAMES TAYLOR & PAUL SIMON (29) - This song was OK, but I much prefer the original. 23: FFUN – CON FUNK SHUN (23) - Like “Flash Light”, it blends in with all the soul/disco songs that were popular in the late 70s. 22: LONG, LONG WAY FROM HOME - FOREIGNER (20) - Good song, kind of surprised this wasn’t a Top Ten hit like their first two hits. 21: NATIVE NEW YORKER – ODYSSEY (21) - Pretty good song, sounds like something the Bee Gees would do. 20: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY – THE LITTLE RIVER BAND (26) - Good song, but one of my least favorites by them. 19: YOU’RE IN MY HEART – ROD STEWART (16) - Great song, one of his best! 18: THUNDER ISLAND – JAY FERGUSON (19) - Great song! 17: WHAT’S YOUR NAME – LYNYRD SKYNYRD (18) - OK song, but I’m not generally a big fan of them. 16: NAME OF THE GAME - ABBA (22) - OK song, but one of my least favorites by them 15: BABY COME BACK - PLAYER (9) - Good song, though quite overplayed. EXTRA: BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO – NEIL SEDAKA - Good song. Not sure what the story leading into it was, since I had stepped out of the room for a few minutes. 14: SHORT PEOPLE – RANDY NEWMAN (8) - Great song with a good message. 13: THEME FROM CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND – JOHN WILLIAMS (14) - Meh, I prefer the one by Meco. 12: PEG – STEELY DAN (13) - Great song, though I didn’t like the edit. 11: I GO CRAZY – PAUL DAVIS (12) - Good song. He sure milked this one for all it was worth! At this point, it had been on the chart for 18 weeks and had yet to hit the Top Ten. 10: HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE – THE BEE GEES (10) - And this song had tenacity as well. This week, it tied “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” by brother Andy Gibb for the song with the most weeks in the Top Ten (and the week after, it spent one more week at #10 to beat the record). As for my opinion of this song, it’s great - one of their best. 9: LAY DOWN SALLY – ERIC CLAPTON (11) - I loved this song back when it was on the charts. Now it’s just OK (though I’d rather listen to this than “Tears In Heaven” any day!) 8: NIGHT FEVER – THE BEE GEES (17) - Good song, but my least favorite of their three songs on the chart this week. 7: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS - QUEEN (4) - Great song! Easily one of my favorites by them!6: DANCE, DANCE, DANCE (YOWSAH, YOWSAH, YOWSAH) - CHIC (7) - This song was OK, but not one of my favorite songs. I was never a big Chic fan. 5: EMOTION – SAMANTHA SANG (6) - Good song. Very interesting (and scary) story about the wasp that flew into her mouth! Thankfully, it flew back out a few seconds later without stinging her. 4: SOMETIMES WHEN WE TOUCH – DAN HILL (5) - Good song, though I prefer his three 1987-88 releases (one of which hit the AC chart only). 3: JUST THE WAY YOU ARE – BILLY JOEL (3) - Great, classic love song! OPTIONAL EXTRA: BABY HOLD ON - EDDIE MONEY - Great song! One of his best. 2: LOVE IS THICKER THAN WATER – ANDY GIBB (2) - Good song, but I prefer other songs by him, such as “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” and “An Everlasting Love”. 1: STAYIN’ ALIVE – THE BEE GEES (1) - Great song although quite overplayed.

It had to do with Neil charting with two different versions of the same song. Part of the "down-dooby-doo-down-down" from the 1962 #1 original was played before playing the slower 1976 remake in its' entirety.

On the 2/22/86 countdown,Casey mentioned that "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)" by Reunion mentions the names of several recording artists-I had completely forgotten about that song-But you've got to admit that "Sweet Soul Music" & "Rock & Roll Heaven" deserve honorable mention.

Part of the "down-dooby-doo-down-down" from the 1962 #1 original was played before playing the slower 1976 remake in its' entirety. The remake actually includes that portion of 1962 hit, so it wasn't anything AT40 added for the purpose of sharing this story.

^Yeah, I have the album that includes that part. But I think Casey sometimes omitted that portion - at least I'm pretty sure he did a few weeks back on the January, 1976 show.

They do kind of sound like it with them singing fast, but the song I remember sounding like "Life Is A Rock" was "I Want You" by Savage Garden.

AT40 The 80s - February 22, 1986 This was my 2nd weekend in England and I missed this episode because I had no idea AT40 aired over there up until a couple weeks later. 1986 is my favourite year in music and noticed that there no "no just nos" on this week's chart critique. Let's see if I have any..I think this time around based on what I was listening to in the car today there may be a couple. What can I say, nothing and no one is perfect. LW#1: HOW WILL I KNOW – WHITNEY HOUSTON - I'll comment later 40: ROCK ME AMADEUS - FALCO - The song as a whole is just awesome, but the Candadian version that is often played on AT40 kinda bothers me. I feel that it loses the essential elements that make the song hot to begin with. 39: MANIC MONDAY - BANGLES - That would be tommorrow and I'm off!! Yay! Anyway this is a classic hit written by of course our very own Prince! 38: NIGHT MOVES – MARILYN MARTIN - No, it's just not hot. I found myself turning down the volume on this one. It has already been noted that she is not a balladeer songstress that people make her out to be because of "Separate Lives". 37: WALK OF LIFE – DIRE STRAITS - Yeah! My dad used to play this quite a bit while we were on road trips in England. 36: GO HOME – STEVIE WONDER - I loved this song from day one. I heard this on Soul Train first before it was an "official single", while "Part-Time Lover" was still climbing the charts! 35: LET’S GO ALL THE WAY – SLY FOX - This samples the Boogie Boys top 5 R&B hit "A Fly Girl". It's one of those songs that got a 2nd chance after if flopped the 1st time. 34: ANOTHER NIGHT – ARETHA FRANKLIN - Good song, but one of my least favourites by this Queen Of Soul. 33: (HOW TO BE A) MILLIONAIRE – ABC - Oh Yeah, I play this ever so often. And when I do, I usually turn up the juice! 32: SAY YOU, SAY ME – LIONEL RICHIE - Powerful ballad! 31: TALK TO ME – STEVIE NICKS - Gotta love this woman! 30: SPIES LIKE US – PAUL McCARTNEY - Meh, not too bad, I prefer his lead album single "Press" from the beginning of the Fall. 29: BEAT’S SO LONELY – CHARLIE SEXTON - The 12" version is just awesome and so is the LP version just as well! The single version just omits the 2nd verse. If you notice he's back on the Hot 100 with a benefit song for Haiti as a "featured" artist On Justin Timberlake's song. 28: WHAT YOU NEED – INXS - The intro to this song is edited slightly (the guitar riff). This is another classic that no one can touch not even JD Fortune. There'll never be another Michael Hutchence. This song always reminded me of psychedelic soul touching on such greats as Sly and The Family Stone. 27: THIS COULD BE THE NIGHT – LOVERBOY - One of my favourite Loverboy records, Mike Reno just had it! 26: R.O.C.K. IN THE U.S.A. – JOHN COUGAR MELLENKAMP - Excellent! A few weeks later Casey talks about the life of Frankie Lymon as mentioned by name in the song which prompted me to see that Halle Barry flick "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" on DVD. 25: HE’LL NEVER LOVE YOU (LIKE I DO) – FREDDIE JACKSON - Yeah!! Love it!! 24: SANCTIFY YOURSELF – SIMPLE MINDS - Eh, not their best, but it's OK. 23: STAGES – ZZ TOP - Meh, so so, nothing special. It sounds like every other ZZ Top song, really. 22: NIKITA – ELTON JOHN - Good, but not my favourite by him. You know that was the name of my 2nd girlfriend in grade school, but it only lasted a day! LDD: COME SAIL AWAY – STYX - Eh, this is OK, not a Styx fan. 21: DIGITAL DISPLAY – READY FOR THE WORLD - Oh Yeah! The 12" remix edit rocks as well! 20: THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON T.V. – A-HA - One of their best. I like this 10x more than "Take On Me". 19: RUSSIANS – STING - Great peace song, I love it. The composition is just off the chain! 18: DAY BY DAY – HOOTERS - Nice!! But their next one week wonder hit "Where Do The Children Go" sucked you know. 17: KING FOR A DAY – THOMPSON TWINS - Another good one! 16: TARZAN BOY – BALTIMORA - Even when they re-issued this in 1993 in which KDWB played the heck out of during that time, I still love it to this day! May the lip-syncer Jimmy Mcshane RIP. The real singer on this song is producer Maurizio Bassi. 15: CONGA – MIAMI SOUND MACHINE - First consciously known pop song record I have ever purchased, prior to this it has always been R&B/Soul records. 14: THESE DREAMS – HEART - This was their first #1 record ever and this is one of their best records. 13: I’M YOUR MAN – WHAM - Good song, but one of my least favourites by them. 12: A LOVE BIZARRE – SHEILA E. - Oh yeah, I'm gonna turn up the juice to this one! 11: SECRET LOVERS – ATLANTIC STARR - On the pop side they have better chart success with ballads, ballads like this one. 10: THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR – DIONNE & FRIENDS - OK, but over spun. 9: BURNING HEART – SURVIVOR - Meh, not for me. I like "Is This Love", though. 8: SILENT RUNNING – MIKE & THE MECHANICS - Yes, sir!! This is a bad azz record especially with Paul Carrack's soulful vocals. 7: LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN – THE DREAM ACADEMY - Gotta love that chanting within the song. 6: THE SWEETEST TABOO – SADE - When it was hot, I used to love this. But now, I feel that it's one of my least favourites by the band. I prefer "Never As Good AS The First Time" and then that quiet storm classic "Is It A Crime". LDD: THE SEARCH IS OVER – SURVIVOR - Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. Can you get any sappier than that? So, no. 5: LIVING IN AMERICA – JAMES BROWN - Owww! Classic jam! 4: SARA – STARSHIP - Oh yeah! One of their best records! 3: WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING – BILLY OCEAN - Yep, that's my man throwing down...the hits! This was also #1 in the UK during this episode's airing. 2: KYRIE – MR. MISTER - One of their best! 1: HOW WILL I KNOW – WHITNEY HOUSTON - Everyone went nuts when this record would come on, this was a biggie! Even though it's overplayed, it's still a classic.
