Exactly... keep in mind, the guy who hosted ABC's NYE broadcasts prior to Dick Clark's 30+ year reign was a legend as well (ask your parents or grandparents about Guy Lombardo). who?

Well, we have a little less than 48 hours to go until Rockin' New Years Eve. I have to head back to Pennsylvania on the 1st to work, and not making excuses, I really have no life, so i'll be on on Saturday night watching New Years Rockin' Eve. The ads on ABC really emphasize the fact that Ryan Seacrest is going to be the primary host, and it just mentions at the end we will see the return of Dick Clark. I have heard rumors that Dick will only appear in a short segment, and it could very well be a pre-taped segment at that. I have also heard Dick and Ryan will be side by side in the studio throughout the entire show. My guess is something in between, but I honestly don't see Dick having the role he used to. My guess is Ryan will be outside interviewing and gaining precense like Dick did up until the last few years.
Also, the ABC publicity photo being used with Dick, Ryan and Hillary Duff is said to have had Dick photoshopped in with a picture from before the stroke.
We shall see. Happy New Year everyone, and enjoy Casey, Ryan, Bob Kingsley, and Rick Dees' year-end countdowns this weekend!!

and for those who have to (and one of those could be me for all I know) enjoy whomever the guest host is on ACC's year end show.

Doesn't look like we will see Dick until the show comes back after its half hour break at 11 for local news. I must say I am impressed with Ryan thus far.

Just saw the first glimpse of Dick Clark on the "New Year's Rockin' Eve" show. Wow. What courage it took for him to appear. His speech is certainly effected by the stroke, quite noticeably so. But what amazing progress for a stroke victim. Here's to another year of Dick's recovery and Happy New Year to all posters!

You said it. Although Dick's speech has a long way to go, it was great to see him on the show - and he looked fabulous (but would you expect anything else from Dick). It's a mixed bag of emotions - it is great to see him and great to see him looking good, but it is obvious he has a long way to go, and is nowhere near his former self. My guess is, unfortunately, he will not be returning to US Music Survey.
But, HATS OFF to the man!!! And, I don't know about anyone else, but I am definately going to cherish each and every new AT20 and AT10 with Casey Kasem in the future, and definately not take a single show for granted.
Happy New Year everyone!

I should take a moment to say, since I haven't been one of Ryan's big supporters on this site, that I think he's done a terrific job and I can see why he was handpicked to be Mr. Clark's successor.

Absolutely. And may I also say after listening to portions of Rick Dees' Top 100 Hot AC show tonight, that Ryan's AT40 is not half bad. Great Year-End recap from him these last two weekends. Honestly, Ryan Seacrest, you are a great talent!! The class he has shown with Dick tonight is remarkable.

I watched up until about 12:03am, and I thought for what I saw Ryan did a good job.
It was GREAT to see Dick Clark again. As you guys have already said, his speech still has a long way to go and I doubt he will ever be on the US Music Survey again. They need to go ahead and find his permanent successor or make the guy hosting it now the one and stop saying "in for Dick Clark."

I watched until a little after 1 when Ryan and Dick signed off and sent it to Hilary Duff in Hollywood. Dick thanked everyone and said he was happy to be back, and that he would never ever forget this night. I do hope he continues to recover, and that we will be able to ring in 2007 and beyond with him!

The one and only radio talent ? The God of american Radio ? The Be-all and End-all of all countdown shows ? How about another "friendly handover" of Dick's show to Ryan Seacrest ? Oh, doesn't this remind me about something else ?
