Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest share New Year's Eve celebration
JEFF WILSON
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest will co-host the 34th edition of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" from Times Square on Dec. 31.
The 75-year-old "American Bandstand" icon's appearance on the live ABC-TV special will be his first since a Dec. 6 stroke resulted in a seven-week hospital stay followed by rehabilitation at his Malibu home.
"He's doing really well," Clark publicist Paul Shefrin said Monday. "He's walking. He's talking. He's living a fairly normal life."
Clark, who was forced to cancel as host of the "New Year's Rockin' Eve" show last year, hasn't appeared on television or done interviews since his stroke.
"He just wants to fine tune it before he sticks his head out - makes his return to television," said Shefrin, who has refused to discuss the impact of what he would only describe as a minor stroke.
Clark said in a statement Monday that he was pleased with the dick clark productions inc. partnership with Seacrest.
"It will be good to be back in New York again for New Year's and I'm elated that Ryan has agreed to join me in ushering in New Year's on America's favorite holiday special. This also gives me the opportunity to welcome him to the position," Clark said.
"American Idol" host Seacrest agreed to a multiyear deal to executive produce and join Clark as "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" co-host. Seacrest will eventually take over as sole host.
"I am very grateful to be part of this institution. Dick Clark is an American icon. I am honored that he has entrusted me with such a role in this national tradition," Seacrest said in a statement.

I don't think Ryan will anchor World News on ABC. It will probably go to George S.
However, I do strongly believe Ryan will take over the Price is Right when Bob Barker retires.
Price is Right and American Idol are both Fremantle Media productions. Since Ryan works for Fremantle via American Idol, he's a 'shoe in' to take over that game show.
Remember, Dick Clark also hosted game shows.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Ryan's a talented guy, and I don't mean to take anything away from him, but haven't we sort of already proven that there IS actually a thing as "too much Ryan." Don't forget, he already had a TV show go the way of the dinosaurs.

yes, but New Years Rockin Eve is once a year and I dont think that would overexpose him. The show to me seems tailor made for him to do.
I do not feel he would take over the Price is Right. Although I think the production company angle is a good point. My feeling is once Bob Barker goes, that show will go too.

OK, so first: If Clark is doing so well, why he's still out on his radio show(s) ??
And second: It's good to see here on this topic, that it's not just me getting a little tired with all this Seacrest things around. In careful words here, he's really overused these days. But this fit's perfect to our times: Take it while it's hot and take as much as you can. Guess it will be burned out soon. Does America have no other talents to lead a major event or programme ?

I have thought about this for a couple of years now, and the answer pretty much is no. Seacrest, whether you like him or not, is young, energetic, pop oriented, has a good look, and is the host of the most recognizable music show on TV. Because American radio is pretty much dull these days, he is about the only recognizable fifure with the qualities I described above.

Don't forget: New Years Eve is a little more than 4 months away. So while Dick Clark may not be in shape for his weekly radio shows at this point, he may easily be ready for a one night gig in 4 months.
Plus, at this point we still aren't sure what kind of role Clark will play in this year's New Years Eve program (which, again, will depend on his condition in 4 months). While he may be fit to do a one-night TV show, he may not be ready for weekly work on a radio show, which includes reading a much more detailed script in a much more crisper fashion than the TV show may require.

Maybe his role is just like Casey's in his very own TV-show "America's Top 10" in the early 90's, where he has just announced something like "America's Top Hit" from the past. The other stuff was done by a "very talented, young, energetic and good looking young guy......" What was his name again ? Tommy I wonder where his talent is gone today ? At least he was that young and hip, that somebody in the production company thought he might do a better job announcing the current Top 10 videos, than Casey would do. Actually that was pretty much the end of that programme. About one and a half years later it disappeared. Not just because of the success of other media like the fulltime channel MTV. Hopefully something like that will never happen to Dick Clark. Somebody should do a job - or end it, if he can't do it anymore. But a legend needs no one of the young and wild to lean on, who holds "Hollywoods future in their hands".

Where has Hollywood gone ? To lean the whole industry on one man's shoulders ? Or should we call it "Ryanwood" ??

Okay, I heard a radio broadcast this week from a well-known Hollywood reporter, who reports for several stations across the country that said there are "Hollywood rumors" about Ryan Seacrest. Without going into detail about the rumors (sorry if you missed it/I will refrain from rumor posting), would America feel different about Seacrest taking over to host NYE show?

I dont know what the rumor is, but he doesnt bother me as much as he seems to bother others. Unlike the jokes we have done about him taking over World News Tonight or someone saying they could see him as hosting TPIR, I think New Years Rockin Eve is something he is well suited for. I would miss Dick Clark obviously if this is the direction they are going in, but Seacrest is a good fit for this type of show.

And I believe Rockin' Eve is a dick clark production...so my guess is Clark will co-host until he no longer wishes to.
Don't forget, people like Dick Clark and Casey Kasem unfortunately will not be around forever. Look at the "Big 3 News Anchors". A year ago Tom, Peter, and Dan were going strong - with only one of them having a retirement planned. Now, Tom and Dan have been retired and we recently lost Peter. Things change, and unfortunately we must find replacements and alternates.

Things change, and unfortunately we must find replacements and alternates. Exactly... keep in mind, the guy who hosted ABC's NYE broadcasts prior to Dick Clark's 30+ year reign was a legend as well (ask your parents or grandparents about Guy Lombardo).
