As I'm typing this, I'm listening to the cassette recording of AT10 I made from WLTW this morning as I dub it to CD.
For those of you who didn't see my earlier posting, Casey *DID* do the show for NYC this weekend. So, there's obviously the interesting historical note in that this is the first time in ATxx history that Casey was heard in one market over a weekend but not in others (not counting affiliate mistakes, of course).
But I'm now hearing AT10 as a one-hour show for the first time, and thought I'd put in a comment about that.
I was admittedly prepared to dislike the show in this format. I just thought that it was "sacreligious" to butcher the show in this manner.
But let me tell ya, it works...other than the fact that you only get one hour of Casey (of course, THIS weekend that puts NYC one hour UP on the rest of the country...but that's not normally the case).
But that's really the only negative. So far, I'm about half-way through the show. I've heard #10-6 plus one extra (with a story), "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones. It's really like listening to the fourth hour of AT40 back in the day. There's virtually nothing getting in the way of the actual countdown. I've heard two segments so far, and they were laid out like this:
SEGMENT 1: Songs #10/9/8
SEGMENT 2: Song #7/Extra/Songs #6/5
Truly a nice pace, and not one we're used to hearing from Casey these days. Even AT20 is "weighted down" with extras by comparison.
Now, I like the regular 3-hour format of AT10, as well as the format of AT20. But this is sort of a nice change of pace, too.
I doubt that I'll get up at 5:55am each Sunday morning to record this, though. And that actually brings to mind another first...
We've often talked about how Casey's shows in many markets begin after the religious and/or public affairs programming ends. Well, I noticed this morning that there was a religious program on BEFORE Casey. And when Casey ended at 7am, he was followed by a public affairs program. I'm assuming they went back to regular music at 8. Why on earth they wouldn't put Casey on at 7 and have him end at 8 is beyond me.
