Hello, all! Just got my copy of CK's AT40 Yearbook from 1979 that I won on e-Bay. This completes the holy trinity of AT40 books in my collection: Rob Durkee's wonderful "American Top 40: Countdown of the Century", Pete Battistini's unbelievable "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem: The 70's", and this one and only AT40 yearbook. Can anyone out there give me some other reading materials on AT40 that I might be able to add to my collection? By the way, my sister and I just moved into a house in Hollywood FL, and while we've been doing countless hours of painting, cleaning, etc. we help pass the time by putting on a classic AT40 show with Casey (and one with Shadoe). Makes the time (and the work) fly by!

While it's not a book that focuses on American Top 40 or Casey Kasem.....Ben Fong-Torres' book "The Hits Just Keep On Coming: A History of Top 40 Radio" is an excellent read about various Top 40 disc jockeys (including our dear Casey) and comes with a CD of airchecks, including several with Casey.
I got my copy on E-Bay around the holidays for about 8 or 9 bucks.

I don't relly count it as a book on the show miself but JJoel Whitburns book "The Billboard Book Of Top 40 Hits Lists every top 40 hits from 1955 to 2003 and in between meaning every top 40 hit from when Casey wass hosting AT40 until Novemeber 1991 when the chart changed . Very useful info.

Why was there never a second AT40 Yearbook?

Why was there never a second AT40 Yearbook? My guess would be poor sales of the first one. In fall '79 AT40 was giving them out to listeners who had a question answered on the show. I'll bet they had a lot of returns from the publisher.

Sometime between 1998 and 2001, according to it's page on Amazon.
The reviews leave me kinda cold on the book, tbh. Including one indication that their copy didn't come with a CD, instead with a link to the publisher's website for references (which, after 20 years, who knows what the publisher's website has on it nor if the links are still there or lead to anything.)

I recall purchasing the book back in 1978, spying it in a stack at the super market. I did pour through it and hoped there would be a follow up but as someone indicated when they started giving away copies for free on AT40--realized it wasn't going to happen.
I still have the copy although it is in a box and not in the greatest of condition--but I do love a quote from the book that Casey and his staff consume facts about pop music like a teen consumes French fries (or something to that affect).

Wow. 17 1/2 years between posts? Is that a new record?

As it was a 1978 'yearbook', you most likely purchased it in 1979. It came out after the turn of the year. Copyright date (by Watermark, Inc.) is 1979. I recall buying my still near-mint copy at a WaldenBooks or B. Dalton (Remember them? Both were in my 'mall of choice'.) in late winter or early spring of '79. ...and no wonder your copy isn't in the greatest of condition, given that you were 'pouring' something through it!

Maybe I did purchase it in 1979 and I recall using some of the info at my first radio job in 1979/80 at a small station located about 70 miles north of Mobile, AL. It was an A/C station where I worked the night shift Mon-Sat, where Hurricane Frederic hit the area less than one month after I got the job. Listening to some of the music from that time frame sure brings back some interesting memories.
