Hi Everybody,
I would be very thankful if some of you could give me some informations on what stations are streaming Charlie Tuna's current syndicated programme "Back to the 70's". I've noticed it runs on some smaller markets without a live stream, but I hope there are a few streaming stations as well.
If someone knows about a broadband stream, that would be GREAT ! Thanks in advance !

I tried to obtain more information for WQMA a year or so back on this show but it's one of the very few programs we've just been denied from airing.
Our goal is to provide all of the best national shows all weekend long in one place.

May I ask why you guys have been denied from airing it? I have never known a station to run it, and I just wonder why it is such a hard to come by show.

I think their excuse was to protect a possible future Memphis, TN affiliate in case there ever might be one, and they'd object to us airing it despite being 70 miles away and unheard there. In other words, they'd rather be on a station in a larger city and we are in a smalltown. There are only a couple syndication companies that have strong objections to us airing their programming. They tend to be the lesser known obscure ones.

There WAS a station in Orlando that aired it on Sunday night. But that affiliate changed formats from oldies or 70's whatever it was, to all spanish. So you can probably guess there was no need for Charlie Tuna on that station anymore. But the couple times I have heard the show, I really like it.

But if they arent on in Memphis now, what the heck makes them think the show ever will be?

I record it from windows media player here mms://71.127.77.19/104%20FM Total recorder is set from 9:55 to 15:10 so I assume it was in there.... it was my first weekend to do so last week (worked well) so I set it longer than need be in case there was a time change. But I think it started at 10am.
Thats Sunday by the way.
Thanks, Shawn

No other known streaming Stations ? The link above doesn't work, at least not for me. JasonWQMA: Maybe you give it a second try ? Sometimes they might think having a big deal on hand, but it might not happend for some reason.

I'm near Memphis and if history repeats itself, the show will never be broadcast there. We do have AT40 (WHBQ FM) and AT20 (FM100) but for several years we didn't, from 2000-2003. Furthermore, if the show does appear, there will never be any announcement-it'll just show up. Rick Dees was broadcast quite regularly but only because he was DJ there in the 1970s.

It has been at least a year - probably more. I'll see what I can do and report back. It might be MG Kelly's company that produces this show. If so, we just seem to have a poor relationship with them. We've negotated a couple times on "American Hit List" but it never works out. We picked "Little Walters Time Machine" instead for that slot, then they took over producing that show, and terminated us immediately.

Jason...the part that I really don't understand is the attitude of terminating you guys when they don't have another station to put the show on. I get the concept of bigger station = bigger audience, so I can see them pulling the show from WQMA if they've got a larger station to put it on. However, zero station = zero audience, and even a small audience beats no audience!

Scott,
I agree with you there. And, in an affiliate numbers game, it just looks better for the show. It can be viewed as positive promotion for the show even if they aren't receiving much of an income from the national spots. Like with Premiere boasting that AT40 is on 400 stations. And if they can't even recover the cost of distribution from 24 minutes of commercial inventory per week, something a couple of companies have mentioned to me in the past, maybe they are doing something wrong.
The companies that we have the hardest time with seem to have shows that could be viewed as unsuccessful in terms of numbers of stations they are on, etc. In my opinion, they should reexamine their policies and model them after more successful syndication operators like Premiere, Westwood One, or United Stations.

Part of the reason that those syndicators are so successful is that they understand the value of a small station clearance where you can't get a large station clearance.

This was my whole malfunction of understanding it also. Apparently it wasn't like Memphis radio stations were trying to break the production companies door down to pick up the show.

I don't really know for sure who syndicates this show. I think it's MG Kelly but like I said, I'm not 100% sure. I checked and I last inquired about it back in 2004. His reply was that there was a market conflict. I don't know with whom. As far as I know, it's not aired locally.
I've emailed Charlie Tuna from the link at his website earlier today. No reply yet.
