I was listening to I Say A Little Prayer by Dionne and Aretha. Both are great but they are pre-Casey.
So from 1970-88, what two (or more) version - both Top 40 - hits - do you feel were the best?

Funkytown, Lipps Inc. & Pseudoecho. That's going to be a hard one to top; Pseudo Echo did a terrific remake. Up there, IMO, is "Always On My Mind" (Willie Nelson & Pet Shop Boys). Drastically different, they are, but both versions reaching the top 5.

"Let's Stay Together," Al Green and Tina Turner. One is an all-time soul classic; the other launched the greatest comeback in pop music history.

I was listening to I Say A Little Prayer by Dionne and Aretha. Both are great but they are pre-Casey. And both are less than a year apart. Dionne charted on 10/21/67, Aretha's remake followed (as the "B' side of "The House That Jack Built") 10 months later, 8/17/68. The other classic example of close-together original and remake occurred at about the same time: Gladys Knight and Pips debuting on the chart the very same week as Dionne with "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", while Marvin Gaye would make it one of the decade's biggest hits with his remake that charted 13 months later on 11/23/68.

“Lean On Me” by Bill Withers and Club Nouveau. Two very different arrangements of a great song—and both hit #1.

How about “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith (original) and Run-DMC (cover)? Aerosmith’s version is still in heavy rotation, and Run-DMCs version helped to launch rap on the pop charts.

Willing to bet that no one's going to nominate "I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing" for this honor. Or the 1971 'three-fer' that was "Love Story".

It's too bad Casey didn't start six months earlier because Let's Work Together. It never gets old. What a great, great record. I love Kansas City, too. I should dig deep on Wilbert.

And both Dionne and Aretha had terrific flip sides, too. Dionne may have the all-time best "lesser of two sides", regardless of which one is chosen (Theme from Valley of the Dolls). It's right up there with some Beatles/Stones/Beach Boys two-siders.

Also we would have had both versions of "Venus". Love the Bananarama version and the Shocking Blue version is good as well.
