This is my 2000th post! When I signed up to be a part of this board ten or so years ago, I never realized how important this community would become to me. From a top 40 knowledge standpoint, sure. Over 2000 posts, however, I have gained something even more important: a community that I appreciate for their wisdom, their humor, and their insight. I thank each of you for making this community such a wonderful part of my life. Here is to another 10 years of top 40 community and appreciation!
That being said, I have thought very seriously what question I wanted to pose for my 2000th post. I wanted it to be something that I think most would appreciate, and I wanted it to be something that would probably require some work. I also wanted something unique. I can't go back to my very first post, but I am 99.9 percent sure it was how Jane Child was robbed of the number one position. So in honor of Jane, and all like her who had one cup of coffee on AT 40, I ask a question that I don't think we have ever tried to tackle:
Which show had the most "one-hit wonders"?
I have absolutely no idea when this would be. So I started with the only show in which all of the top 3 were one-hit wonders: April 28, 1990. On that show, there were 8 artists that would not hit the top 40 again:
Sinead O'Conner
Jane Child
Calloway
Am'e Lorain
Digital Underground
The U-Krew
Faster P cat (of course for my 2000th post, the actual name of this group is not allowed to be typed, lol)
Perfect Gentleman
Almost 25 percent of the show made up of artists that would never have another top 40 hit! And in the true form that I have learned in ten years, you could even argue it was nine artists, depending on how you consider the run of "TLC" by Linear in 1992. From a Billboard perspective, Linear is considered a one-hit wonder. From an AT/CT perspective, they are a two-hit phenomenon!
This might be a question you know, or you might need to do some research. It was also a question that I wanted on the board so whether it is posed in 2022 or beyond people could look back on and comment with their findings. I thought it would be fun to throw it out there for us to gnaw on. And the starting number is 8! And thanks to you all for making this community an honor to be a part of.
