Fred Parris (1936 - 2022)

Fred Parris passed away January 13 after a short illness. He was 85.

Leader of the Five Satins, Fred wrote and sang lead on the doo-wop classic "In The Still Of The Night (Nite)". Though it only reached #24, it became a standard through the years covered by the Beach Boys and Boyz II Men and featured in movies like "Dirty Dancing".

WCBS-FM in New York City used to have a bi-annual countdown The Top 500-Every time they featured the countdown,"In The Still Of The Night" always came in at # 1.

My mother was a big fan of his. He lived not too far from me and, in fact, his obituary was featured in the local newspaper. It seemed odd seeing a celebrity on the regular obituary page.
