Robert Leslie Emmerson, guitarist and lead vocalist of the Five Man Electrical Band passed away December 10 at the age of 77. Although he reportedly was double-vaccinated, underlying health concerns made him vulnerable to contracting the COVID-19 virus last month. He wrote the anthemic "Signs", a #3 hit in the US. Their follow-up "Absolutely Right" was their other Top 40 hit, peaking at #26. Les also reached the Top 40 as a solo artist on Cashbox with his "Control Of Me" release. It peaked at #5 in his native Canada. The Five Man Electrical Band will always hold a special place in my memories. They're the first band I saw in a concert setting, opening for Rare Earth at the McCormick Theatre in Chicago April 22, 1972. Tickets were $4.50 for the nosebleed seats. The band was great. Also became a fan of their single "Julianna". Missed the Billboard charts in the US (#61 Cashbox), but made it to #17 in Canada. Obituary CTV News Obituary
