Jay Black passed away October 22 at the age of 82. Complications from pneumonia was the cause. Born David Blatt, he had been performing as David Black when he was picked to succeed Jay Traynor as lead vocalist of Jay & The Americans in 1962. Upon entering the group, he adopted Jay as his first name. Jay Black was known as "The Voice". His vocals and tremendous range graced Top 40 hits like "Cara Mia", "Come A Little Bit Closer", "Only In America", "Walkin' In The Rain", and "This Magic Moment". The group's 1965 Top 20 hit "Sunday And Me", was the first success in the Hall of Fame career of singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. Plans for a memorial service have not been announced. Obituary
