I don't post often on here, but some of you know me as the host of the weekly pop music radio show "Crap From The Past" (since 1992!) I've used Casey Kasem sound bites in my IDs for over just about the entire run of CFTP. Big fan, to put it mildly.
Last week (here in 2021), I got the following email:

I truly have the greatest job in radio.

Hi Ron,
I came across your website while I was researching a personal essay I'm writing about having braces. In 1982, I got a long-distance dedication on Casey Kasem's AT40, asking him to dedicate the Beatles' "Come Together" to my teeth.
Thank god for the internet!, where I was able to track down the date of the show, and then I found the archives of your show Crap from the Past, where my letter was included in your "Greatest Casey Kasem Tribute Show Of All Time.” I am so grateful that you included the recording of Casey reading my letter! I had no memory of the letter I wrote, so it was terrific (and terrifically painful!) to hear the entire letter in Casey's inimitable voice.
It's been really fun to find this stuff as I write the essay. Thanks so much for your archive work, and for choosing me to be part of that Tribute Show. Anyway, I found your email address on the KFAI website, and thought I'd drop you a note of appreciation.
Best wishes,
Melanie

Melanie - If I may use an acronym, OMG!
I remember hearing your AT40 dedication when I was a kid. It was unusual, funny, and relevant, since I had braces at the time. The dedication stuck with me 100% like glue for as long as I listened to AT40 - through the 300 sound bites that I mined to make my "Crap From The Past" IDs, through the two books about AT40 that I appear in, through the broadcasting techniques employed by AT40 that I gleefully pilfered for my own radio show, and the book I wrote about radio. I know that all of the dedications are heartfelt and earnest, but the only two I can list off the top of my head are the little dog named Snuggles (which prompted a swear-fest outtake), and yours!
Yeah, you're a minor celebrity!
I'm delighted that you found what you were looking for, and came across my show in the process. I've attached an mp3 of your long distance dedication, from the April 17 1982 show.
Thanks for writing, and thanks for listening!
