Paul Cotton passed away August 1 at the age of 78. His death was unexpected, but peaceful. Born in Alabama but raised in Chicago, Paul began gaining recognition as a member of the Rovin' Kind. He later was a member of the Illinois Speed Press, a band that released a couple of Columbia albums in 1969 & 1970. Featuring the twin lead guitars of Paul and Kal David, the band were mainstays at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in the late 60s. The albums were produced by James William Guercio, who also produced the Buckinghams and Chicago. Paul joined Poco in 1971 replacing Jim Messina for the band's third album "From The Inside". He stayed with Poco through 1987, penning and singing lead vocals on "Heart Of The Night" and "Indian Summer". He would rejoin the band in the 90s and remained a member until 2010. He relocated to Key West in 2005 and became actively involved with the community, performing at benefit shows. Paul became the second member of Poco to pass away this year. Founding member Rusty Young died April 14, 2021. Obituary
