Complications from diabetes has taken the life of "Mr. Personality". Lloyd Price passed away on May 3 at the age of 88. At 19, Lloyd auditioned for Fats Domino arranger and producer Dave Bartholomew. With Fats on piano, "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" topped the R & B charts for seven weeks in 1952. In early 1959, his version of "Stagger Lee" topped the Hot 100 for 4 weeks. Later that year "Personality" and "I'm Gonna Get Married" peaked at #2 and 3 respectively. In total, Lloyd charted 10 Top 40 his between 1957 and 1963. He was also a noted entrepreneur. Lloyd founded Double-L records with his business manager Harold Logan. The label helped to launch the career of Wilson Pickett. Other businesses were the food industry, real estate, night clubs, and promoting boxing matches with Don King, including Muhammed Ali's "Rumble In The Jungle" versus George Foreman, and the "Thrilla In Manila" against Joe Frazier. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Obituary
