I'll say right off the top that this was actually Pete's idea. I mentioned to him in a post the other day that 1972 must be his favorite year in music. He told me that he breaks down his preferences into seasons. So here are my top five musical seasons:
1. Summer of 1975... So many ear-catching songs (of various lengths) that just sounded like summer, and still do. Top tunes: "I'm Not in Love", "Get Down Tonight", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight."
2. Fall of 1970... Being only three years old at the time, I had to discover the greatness of the music over time as I grew up. Top tunes: "The Tears of a Clown", "All Right Now", "Fire and Rain."
3. Spring of 1980... The last gasp for the playlist variety that made top-40 radio great; yacht rock still had to compete with disco. Top tunes: "Biggest Part of Me", "And the Beat Goes On", "Ride Like the Wind."
4. Winter of 1986... All the major superstars took the season off, making room for lots of weird-but-good music. Top tunes: "Alive and Kicking", "Silent Running", "Life in a Northern Town."
5. Spring of 1983... After the mega media markets finally got wired for cable and discovered MTV, the response from radio was swift. Top tunes: "Let's Dance", "Jeopardy", "She Blinded Me with Science."

Spring 1968 - Box Tops, Rascals, Intruders and OMG here come Richard Harris and Herb Alpert Winter 1968 - Lemon Pipers, John Fred and his Playboy Band, Union Gap and that Lettermen medley Autumn 1967 - Vikki Carr, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Cowsills, Soul Survivors Spring 1976 - Spring happiness on steroids - Sebastian, Nightingale and of course Frampton! Spring 1975 - See '76 - no more Vietnam! - Blackbyrds, Elton John, America, Chicago. These songs just wouldn't sound right in any other season.
Spring, in general, rules for happiness and optimism, and it's hard for me to separate my happy times from the songs that were playing on the radio at the time. But 6th grade trumps spring for me.
Summer STARTS happy but by late August it is always bittersweet, and there's still a month left. It's those Night Moves.

Spring 1983- I easily could have gone the entire year, but this is where we see Duran Duran's "Rio", Journey's "Frontiers" and Def Leppard's "Pyromania" as three of the hottest new albums at that time. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Fall 1985- You had two of the best videos of the decade- Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" and A-Ha's "Take On Me". I debated my friends on which song was better Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" or Huey Lewis & The News' "Power Of Love". I was set on Dire Straits at that time, but today I would say it's a dead even tie.
Spring 1986- My Fave was Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" but there were other great #1s as well. Heart's "These Dreams", Starship's "Sara" (which was way better than "We Built This City") and Mr. Mister's "Kyrie", a group who had a guitarist that was originally from my home state- Steve Farris from Fremont, Nebraska
Fall 1989- Who could go wrong with "Love Shack", "Love In An Elevator", "Love Song" (both Tesla and The Cure), and Dr.Feelgood". Even the average idiot teenager that I was at that time could easily recognize that "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" sounded like The Beatles.
Summer 1991- Lenny Kravitz's "It Ain't Over Til It's Over" first Top 40 hit. Power Ballad Mania with Scorpions' "Wind Of Change", Steelheart's "I'll Never Let You Go", and I discovered that Extreme's "Pornographitti II" was an album with more than just two acoustic songs. Nuno Bettencourt was one of the most underrated guitarists ever!!! The GN'R song "You Could Be Mine" from Terminator II. I bought the cassette single just before the "Use Your Illusion I & II" albums came out. Enter Sandman and enter Grunge, and the rest is history.
