I never liked how Dees skipped songs; Fortunately, that practice came to an end about 10 years ago, except in a couple of cases where songs were accidentally left off.

Actually, from what I heard, Dees introed the song and began playing it, but after a few seconds, there was an explosion sound effect (pretty much representing what happened to their music career) and then they went on to the next song. In other words: Not a normal "skip", in the vein of Rick's future habit of skipping songs, but rather a deliberate stunt - but still very much Rick being Rick.

At least "All or Nothing" by Milli Vanilli did get played on the AT40 Top 100 of 1990, did this song ever get played on the Casey's Top 40 Top 100 of 1990? Since when has Casey pulled a Dees and skipped songs? And, by the way, yes it was played...and Casey's intro to the song is perfect. I also recall Shadoe making a reference to "those pop impostors" introing "All Or Nothing" on the 1990 year end AT40--presumably the only chance he or the other countdown hosts had to intro a Milli Vanilli song after the ruse was blown.

Maybe in terms of shows produced after the scandal broke - but CT40's Top Million Sellers of the 1980s special aired just a week and a half after Frank Farian blew their cover (it aired 11/24/90). On top of that, they have two songs in that countdown - Casey would more or less gloss over "Girl You Know It's True" (going in and out of the song without saying too much - it also kicked off Hour 3), while for "Blame it on the Rain" he talked exclusively about the song itself. Still, with that airdate I have to think it'd have been produced before November 14, the day Frank spilled the beans. And it turns out that Milli Vanilli being "pop impostors", so to speak, didn't stop AT40 from having Flashbacks with them in the Top 5 - but Shadoe would refer to them not being who we thought they were anytime they'd come up. I know of at least two such Flashbacks: 3/23/91 (Flashback to 3/18/89) and 12/5/92 (Flashback to 12/2/89 - with them at #1, no less).

And to add to that: It was Rob and Fab who asked Shadoe on the 12/5/1992 show if it was just about time for an AT40 Flashback. Then Shadoe asked them if they tossed him a real coin. 😂😂😂
ETA: The cue sheet says Flashback to 12/5/1989, which is obviously incorrect.

But seriously, I'm pretty sure you're right, as Casey plugged the show for several weeks before it aired, somewhat implying that it was all produced and ready to go.

Even after the scandal with Black Box and Martha Wash broke, Shadoe said that Katrin of the group learned the lyrics word by word because of her poor English when introducing "Everybody Everybody." They even had a drop piece of her wishing happy holidays to AT40 listeners with no mention of Martha Wash.

Does anyone happen to know what songs he skipped on the Top 90 of 1990? My notes show that "All or Nothing" by Milli Vanilli was the only song skipped on the 1990 Rick Dees year-end countdown. Rick could fit 90 (OK, 89) songs into 8 hours but it wasn't long after 1990 that he gave up trying to squeeze all the songs into his year-end countdowns. "All or Nothing" was at #79 on this countdown.

Instead of doing a Top 91, 92, 93 or what have you, he could have featured a Top 80 year-end countdown (like he did for his decade-enders in the 80s and 90s). That way, he wouldn't have had to skip any songs.

To add to the Milli Vanilli discussion: I'm currently listening to AT40 from 11/2/91 - and among the ads is a notice of a pending class action lawsuit over the lip syncing scandal.
