Michael Stanley has passed away. His band, The Michael Stanley Band, had two minor hits in the early 80s. He remained incredibly popular in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and hosted afternoons on Classic Rock 98.5 WNCX from 1992 until just two weeks ago. I grew up listening to him on WNCX and had a chance to meet him a few times when I interned with the Infinity Broadcasting cluster of stations in Cleveland a significant number of years ago. A good guy, and absolutely beloved in his hometown. ultimateclassicrock.com/michael-stanley-dead/www.radio.com/wncx/latest/michael-stanleys-farewell-letter

Whenever I would drive to Cleveland to visit my parents, I would make sure to tune into his show. He had a great voice for radio and some cool stories. Cleveland's city council renamed part of Huron Road "Michael Stanley Way" for everything he did to help Cleveland. Great guy... and his two Top 40 hits should have done better on the charts.

Alway remember the one week My Town was in the top 40 and the story of Michael getting fired to go along with it.

I liked "He Can't Love You" which reached the countdown in late 1980-early 1981.

It will be strange to not have Michael on the radio in Cleveland for sure. The love and tributes poring out this weekend are nice to read. Despite him being more of a regional favorite, he clearly had a lot of respect in both the music and radio industry.
