Predating AT40 by a few months, "No Time," the Guess Who: "You-dah-n-dah-n-dah-n-dah-n-dah" and "you-day-n-gay-n-day-n-gay-n-day."

It recently dawned on me what the ultimate example of a nonsense lyric song has to be, bar none. Two words, folks: RUBBER BISCUIT (And no, I couldn't begin to submit or type any of the lyrical gibberish. )

Though this song didn't make the AT40 reaches but got airplay in Summer 1983 on WLS AM 890 Chicago, "Ewok Celebration" by Meco uses Ewok language gibberish.

Somehow, we have all neglected a group that did this in multiple songs... America.
* They lah lah'ed in between choruses and verses of "A Horse With No Name". * They di-di-di-di-did their way through "Ventura Highway". * They doo-wop doo-wop'ed at the end of "Sister Golden Hair".
Speaking of doo-wop, Paul Davis doo-wop and dee-dee wop'ed in "'65 Love Affair".
Aretha Franklin also lah lah'ed in the intro and ending in "Spanish Harlem".

I don't know if you are aware, but the Blues Bros version was actually a cover; the original was a very minor non-charting hit in 1956 by a doo-wop group called the Chips. I think I heard it once on SiriusXM's 50's on 5 channel.

Another song that didn't make the top 40 reaches with doo wop style sounds was a 1982 song by the Capris called "Morse Code of Love" which had "Dit-dot-didit-dit-dot-didit" doo-wop style sounds. That song would later be covered 3 years later by the Manhattan Transfer as "Baby Come Back To Me" and make the Hot 100 but not top 40.

And they also made some sounds towards the end of “Tin Man” but lyrics sites don’t list what they sang... and I can’t type how they sing those sounds . From the 90’s, Paula Cole “dih dit, dih dih dit” and “yippee yiy, yippee yay”ed on “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone”.

A song on AT40: The 80's 1/25/1986 "He'll Never Love You (Like I Do)" by Freddie Jackson there's some na na na's in the bridge chorus before the final chorus, I think.
