You know when a tune is so memorable that you sing it by nah nahing or doo dooing your way through the song? It might be fun to compile a list what singers actually did that in a Top 40 song. A few that come to mind: * Howard Jones "whoa, whoa, whoa-oh-oh, whoa, whoa, whoa-oh-oh"ed his way through "Things Can Only Get Better". * Taylor Dayne "nah nah na-nah nah nah, nah nah na-nah nah nah"ed in between verses of "I'll Be Your Shelter". * John Denver "Hi-dee-aye" and "Hi-dee-oh"ed during parts of "Calypso". * The Rolling Stones notonly sang "doo doo doo doo doo" but include that in the title of "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" * Stevie Wonder both "doo doo doo doo doooo"ed and "doh da doh da doh"ed his way through "Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)". What are some other songs where a singer or group filled in areas of a song with... uh... non words? On a July 1990 AT40 show Shadoe played a medley of songs with "NA NA NA's" in them.

I think the ultimate song to have nah nah nah is Hey Jude--almost 4 minutes of it as the Beatles encouraged the orchestra musicians to join them on that part of the song.
By the way, Paul McCartney does the same as the audience joins in where ever he performs the song live.

Of course, the Stones had several hits featuring 'sounds' as lyrics--Miss You, Emotional Rescue, & Heartbreaker that was mentioned before.

This pre-dates AT40 but is Strangers In The Night not the most famous example of this? Or maybe it only WAS the most famous.
