Sony Pictures Television has picked up worldwide rights for Fran Strine's music documentary Who You Gonna Call? about the life of Grammy-Award-winning musician, and Ghostbusters theme tune writer, Ray Parker Jr. The film "traces Parker's life, growing up in Detroit in the 1960s, where he survived a racially fueled police beating as a teen, and managed to escape into the world of music. A meeting with Motown legend Marvin Gaye, when Parker was just 15, launched an extraordinary career, which saw him touring with the likes of Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones at just 18-years-old." Parker, as some remember, famously lost the Best Original Song OscarĀ® to Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You." Sony and Strine finalized the deal at the Zurich International Film Festival, which explains that city's use in the URL... www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/zurich-sony-pictures-television-buys-who-you-gonna-call-docdL

Saw Ray Parker Jr. at a Public Television broadcast that was never aired. He sang "You Can't Change That" and "Ghostbusters". Featured a lot of good artists: Night Ranger, Martha Davis (Motels), Mickey Thomas (Elvin Bishop Group, Jefferson Starship), the Van Zant brothers (38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd), and both Survivor lead vocalists (Dave Bickler and Jimi Jamison) plus Jim Peterik (Ides of March and Survivor). Lately Ray Parker Jr has been doing studio work with Boz Scaggs, appearing on his last three efforts "Memphis", "A Fool To Care" and "Out Of the Blues". Speaking of Boz Scaggs, he and Bonnie Raitt appeared at the virtual Farm Aid over the weekend duetting on a cover version of Sam & Dave's "You Don't Know Like I Know". Bonnie & Boz had previously teamed together on the song "Hell To Pay" from Boz's "A Fool To Care" effort.
