Singer/songwriter Emitt Rhodes passed away July 19 from natural causes in his sleep at the age of 70. Emitt would first find regional success as the leader of the Merry-Go-Round. The song "Live" was a big hit on the west coast in 1967 and would reach #63 on the Hot 100. They would chart briefly with "You're A Very Lovely Woman", a song Linda Ronstadt would cover in the early 70s as "(She's A) Very Lovely Woman" After the band dissolved in 1969, Emitt received a $5,000 advance from ABC/Dunhill and bought recording equipment. He recorded his self-titled debut in his parent's garage, playing all the instruments and singing all vocals. It was a commercial success, reaching the Top 30 on the Billboard album chart. The single "Fresh As A Daisy" (personal favorite) would peak at #54 on the Hot 100. Two additional albums followed but with the writing and recording done solely by Emitt, it was impossible to fulfill the terms of his contract which called for an album every 6 months for a period of 3 years. Lawsuits followed and Emitt stopped performing. Through the years, he would occasionally record work that would for one reason or another was never released. He worked as a recording engineer/record producer for Elektra in the late 70s/early 80s. A documentary on his life titled "The One Man Beatles" was released in 2009 and was nominated for best documentary in 2010. His last published work was an album titled "Rainbow Ends" in 2016, receiving favorable reviews. Obituary
