Have a question that's been dogging me for some time.
In the mid-1980s, Reader's Digest magazine's musical arm released a series of box sets called "Those Were Our Songs." These seven-record sets each followed a standard format: Each year from the half-decade (e.g., for the early 1930s, they'd go 1930-1931-1932-1933-1934, and so on), plus an album with male vocalists on one side and female vocalists on the other, and then an entire album of bands and vocal groups. The range of years covered spanned the 1930s through 1960s. (These were also available on compact disc, as well as cassette or (the still available) 8-track formats.)
So far, I've been able to find albums from various sources – including eBay – from the early 1930s, late 1930s, early 1940s, late 1940s, early 1950s and early 1960s, plus one featuring songs from the World War II-era.
But no album listed – at least currently – for late 1950s, which you'd think would be listed at least once. (Although about a year ago, I checked and there was no listing for the late 1950s either.)
That brings the question up: Was there ever a "Those Were Our Songs" box set from Reader's Digest covering the late 1950s? And if so, what was the track listing.
If anyone can help, that'd be great. Thanks!
Brian
