Founding Fleetwood Mac member Peter Green passed away peacefully today, July 25 at the age of 73. Before the Buckingham/Nicks and Bob Welch eras there was Peter Green. He and Mick Fleetwood co-founded the band, after having met in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. They convinced John McVie to join the group dubbed Fleetwood Mac. Peter's tenure in Fleetwood Mac was short but very influential. Songs like "Black Magic Woman", "Oh Well" and "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)" were Top 40 hits in the UK and covered by the likes of Santana, The Rockets, and Judas Priest respectively. Fleetwood Mac reached the peak of the UK singles charts in 1968 with the instrumental "Albatross". In 1973, the song would chart a second time peaking at #2. They also peaked at #2 in the UK with the aforementioned single "Oh Well" and "Man Of The World". Eric Clapton and B B King were fans of his guitar work and Rolling Stone ranked him #58 on the list of Greatest Guitarists of all time. He left Fleetwood Mac in 1970. Sadly mental illness and drug use were major causes of his fading into professional obscurity. Through the years he has been in and out of the public limelight. He released several albums around the turn of the century under the Peter Green Splinter Group. He recorded and toured about ten years ago as Peter Green And Friends. On February 25, 2020 an all-star tribute concert was performed at the London Palladium, billed as "Mick Fleetwood and Friends Tribute to Peter Green". Obituary
