It was exactly 65 years ago this week that "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley & The Comets reached # 1 on the Billboard pop chart-It has been acknowledged by many music historians to be the song that officially launched the rock & roll era-"Rock Around The Clock" had been released one year earlier 1954-It was the "B" side of a song called "Thirteen Women"-The song languished in obscurity until the producers of a movie called "Blackboard Jungle" thought it would be a perfect song as the opening credits appeared on the screen. The exposure the song got from "Blackboard Jungle" sent it straight to #1 where it stayed for eight weeks-It has supposedly sold 25 million copies-It recharted in 1974 where it peaked at #39-That was probably due to the fact that "Rock Around The Clock" was the original theme song for the long running TV series "Happy Days" which debuted in January 1974-It was also played over the opening credits of the 1973 movie "American Graffiti" which was directed by a pre "Star Wars" George Lucas-"Rock Around The Clock" is a certifiable classic,no doubt about it.
