It was 40 years ago today that the Billboard country singles chart showed the all-time deepest freeze: The top 20 songs each held at the same position as the previous week. I decided to break down this phenomenon magazine by magazine.
This predates any songs from Urban Cowboy making the upper reaches. For what it's worth, of these 20 tracks, the only one I remember ever hearing -- besides the obvious one -- is arguably the greatest country song ever, "He Stopped Loving Her Today."
