Is this is the strongest weekend offerings ever? I'd have to think about an all-time favorite weekend (specific shows paired together)... but the line-up below works on any given weekend for me :
January thru June: 1978 paired with 1985 July thru December: 1976 paired with 1983

Can we just fast forward six days? 1979 and a 82/84 combo! Is this is the strongest weekend offerings ever? Not sure about strongest ever as I don't commit AT 40 pairings to memory, but this upcoming weekend is pretty strong.

There is one weekend that I recall a few years back where we had 7-17-76 and 7-13-85. Those are what I referred to as my Birthday Countdowns. I would say that there is usually up to 10 weekends a year that I would consider "strong weekends". Spring/Summer 1983 would have to be a prerequisite for me with a Summer show from 1975-1979, although 1978 had too much Grease and Bee Gee's.
Here is a "Fantasy Pick" for May
70's- 5-14-77 and/or 5-12-79
80's- 5-14-83 with a personal pairing with AT40 5-13-89 (uhg ! those can of worms again !)

I agree, this coming weekend's airings from 1979, 1982 and 1984 are pretty solid. The 1979 show has an April Wine song, and is also a show that proves that disco music was at its best, until a baseball game led to the drastic downfall of disco three months later, and hardly anything upbeat until 1982, though I have to admit, my music interest peaked during 1983-1984.
I also think the rise of punk rock and new wave may have also led to disco's downfall. Disco music was getting better and better by the time that infamous backlash took place in July 1979.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but 5-14-77 and 5-14-83 are possibilties for airing this year- we'll see.

It's the first day of Spring! And I'm flipping back and forth between 1981 and 1979; does life get any better!

LOL I'm not sure if it was BB that led to disco's downfall as much as it was Mr. BG and his falsetto.

For May through July, I'd go with 1977 or 1979 and 1984 -- any of those years are unbeatable during that time. For January through April, 1978 and 1985 are spot on (though 1976 was really good during January and February also). July through December...1976 and 1983 is a great pairing. 1979 would also work for July through September. 1986 works well for April through July.

You would hope that 4/3/21 would be the best countdown weekend ever.

You would hope that 4/3/21 would be the best countdown weekend ever. Would have been appropriate if they'd gone with 1987 this weekend instead of a few weeks back, since "The Final Countdown" is on that show.

You would hope that 4/3/21 would be the best countdown weekend ever. 4/3/2021 - Ryan Seacrest still hosts AT40 even remotely, and is Rick Dees still doing his Weekly Top 40 but not much to radio stations?

Rick still hosts a hybrid CHR/Hot AC current weekly countdown. But the station count is dwindling to a sad level.

Rick is 71 years old now, too. Just makes one think how much longer he'll be doing this.
