Even more exciting will be the 80th anniversary of the Best Sellers Singles chart, which was first published in the July 27, 1940 issue of Billboard. The Best Sellers chart was the forerunner of the Hot 100 and the first #1 was I'll Never Smile Again by Tommy Dorsey (featuring a vocalist you may have heard of--Frank Sinatra).
Although, I believe the Album is important, most of us enjoy individual songs and the Best Sellers chart was a reflection of individual songs that were popular.
