Prior to Ariana Grande, I believe the last act of have 4 hits as a lead act was The Black Eyed Peas, either in 2009 or 2010. Also, Sonny Bono had 4 simultaneous Top 40 hits at some point in the '60s. Mentioned above by djjoe. 1965. One solo and three with ol' what's-her-name. What's funny about that instance is that Sonny & Cher's 'official' Atco follow-up to their smash "I Got You Babe", "Just You", was lower-charting than a 'from the vaults' recording that Reprise quickly released, "Baby Don't Go". #20 vs. #8.

What about during the CT years? How many acts had three hits simultaneously? I think Whitney did, and I'm almost 100 percent certain that Real McCoy did. Outside of those two, I'm not sure if anyone else did.
Good responses by everyone, by the way. We've gone from Elvis to Ari...with Tony Burrows in between 🤣

Another Ryan Seacrest-era four-fer occurred in January 2010 when the Black Eyed Peas had, at the same time, "Boom Boom Pow", "I Gotta Feeling", and "Meet Me Halfway" (all on the way down) and "Imma Be" (debuting.)

And when Casey returned to AT40, Ricky Martin did it in 1999.

New Kids on the Block, on September 29, 1989 (and coincidentally the 1000th show of American Top 40) did it with "(Didn't I) Blow Your Mind", "Cover Girl", and "Hangin' Tough". They would all three be on the 10/7/89 show as well. Then, a few weeks later, the New Kids would do it again for one week. On the 11/25/89 show the Kids had "Mind", "Cover" and "This One's For The Children". Other than Diana doing it in 1980, I think these were the only two times it happened in the 80's. Pretty neat bookends to the decade! Thanks for filling me in on the other act to match Diana's feat in the 80's. I really didn't think any act in the mid or late 80's had the popularity or momentum to place three or more songs in the Top 40 simultaneously; obviously NKOTB did in their prime of 1989. I really thought that if MJ couldn't do it in his Thriller period, nobody in that decade could do it. BTW, Michael Jackson did come within a hair's breadth of having three songs in the Top 40 the week ending May 28, 1983. With "Billie Jean" still hanging around and "Beat It" still in the Top 5, "Wanna Be Starting Something" debuted on the chart at #41. The following week saw the Top 40 debut of that song (at #22), but, alas, also saw the departure of "Billie Jean". I believe Rick Dees was using Cash Box for his chart in 1983 and the week of June 4, Michael Jackson had 3 songs in the Top 40--Billie Jean at #38, Wanna Be Startin' Something was at #34 and Beat It was at #3. Oops just double checked and Rick started his countdown show in September of 1983--Oh, well.

On the Hot AC version of AT40, Katy Perry had four hits all at once in late 2011.
