I was just wondering if anyone knew the current health status on Dick Clark. Right after his stroke, they said he would still be able to do New Year's Eve. After it was announced that Regis was doing it, they said he should still be back on his feet around that time, but they just didn't want him doing the show. Then around December 31, it was reported he was still in fact in the hospital.
Now that January is coming to a close, there have been no more real updates on Dick Clark, and he has been nowhere yet. I know Jeff Robbins is still doing "US Music Survey" and in last week's show, the only mention of Dick Clark was through the jingles, Jeff made no mention of him (at least in the hour and a half that I caught)
Just wondering if anyone knew.

I was listening to WDMK-Kiss 102.7 FM, here in Detroit, on my way to work this morning, and the lady who does the entertainment news for that station, mentioned that Dick Clark was released from the hospital yesterday. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

I've cut-and-pasted the AP story on Dick Clark's release from the hospital below.
However, I listen to the "US Music Survey" every week, and Jeff has mentioned numerous times on the show each week (including last week) that he's in for Dick Clark. Clearly, the expectation is that Dick will return to the mike, and I wish Dick a speedy recovery so that we can hear him back where he belongs again soon.

Dick Clark Released From Hospital
Thu Jan 27,10:59 AM ET
By JEFF WILSON, Associated Press Writer
MALIBU, Calif. - "American Bandstand" icon Dick Clark is recuperating at home after a minor stroke put him in the hospital for more than seven weeks.
Clark, 75, returned to his Malibu home Wednesday and was grateful for the many cards and letters he received during his hospital stay, publicist Paul Shefrin said.
"He was very touched by the outpouring of support, not only from the celebrity world but from the people on the streets of New York," Shefrin said.
For the first time in 32 years, Clark was unable to host his "New Year's Rockin' Eve" show from Times Square. Daytime talk show host Regis Philbin stood in while Clark watched from his hospital bed.
During the broadcast, fans on the street held up "Get Well Dick" signs. Madonna, John Travolta, Janet Jackson and other celebrities were shown on videotape expressing best wishes.
Shefrin wouldn't discuss the impact of the stroke.

Jeff is not the host of the show this weekend. I only caught brief snippets and did not catch the name of this weekend's host. He sounded good though.

probably had other plans himself this week. I am sure he wasn't planning on having to fill in every week for 3-4 months at a time.

David Perry is no longer in the radio biz. He's sold his radio stations several years ago and moved out of business, wich includes doing hosting or guesthosting jobs. As a big "fan" of David you should know about that ....

My local US Music Survey affiliate went all-Christmas on November 1, so I didn't hear any US Music Survey for 2 months. What was the first show where Dick was no longer hosting?

I haven;t been suffering from insomnia, so following his whereabouts would have been suffering tantamount to being chained to my chair and having to watch CNN non stop for 48 hours. Those who know me, know it would be death.

December 18, which featured Bette Midler in the spotlight. This week's host was Michael something...I've got a mental block against his last name. Didn't think he was bad, though I wasn't optimistic after listening to him open the show...he sounded very much like David Perry in style at that point, just without so deep a voice. But then I guess he got warmed up and sounded much better as the show progressed.

Well, I put on WHUD this morning to record Dick Clark's show as usual...and instead discovered that they weren't airing the show. Had a local jock on just playing music, but saying he was "sitting in for Dick Clark." I called the station, and someone helpful actually answered the phone. He explained that the guest hosts that Dick's network have been using have become "too inconsistent" (he even mentioned Jeff Robbins by name, so I knew he knew what he was talking about), and that they would not be running the show again until Dick returned.
Also, when that (God willing) happens, WHUD will no longer carry the show twice a week. It will only be on at 7am, and not replayed at 9pm.
Does anyone know of other stations that have yanked the show, at least temporarily? What are they doing with Dick's oldies show, "Rock, Roll and Remember"? Guest hosts? Reruns?

That makes absolutely no sense. "Too inconsistent"?? So, we're just going to play random music with a local dj? What a joke. Radio programmers never cease to amaze me with their boneheaded moves.

this could also be a case of using a paper thin reason to do what they want anyway (i.e. begin to remove the show little by little)

That said, does anyone have this past weekend's show? And would they be willing to record the show on CD weekly for me til Dick returns? If interested, please contact me at slakefield@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Hey Scott! ;D I've read this site for ages. I finally registered. Great to see more activity here lately. I can answer your question about RR&R. United Stations continues to pump out the shows with Dick and no mention of Dick Clark in any hospital or recovering from a stroke. Haven't even seen a cue sheet mention to affiliates. They've presented a few "special" shows like an A to Z special that aired two weekends ago that could have been recorded/played back anytime. They went from the Animals to the Zombies throughout music history. A really good show actually. This last weekends show was Valentines Day themed. Could have been recorded in any year. I don't quite know if they are rerunning shows, splicing together old shows, or going through a library of "special" timeless shows. They have been good tho. I can't see any oldies station even considering dropping Dick now... In fact, it's made me think more about his weekday music calendar feature. You can listen to Rock Roll & Remember in CD quality stereo sound online at www.q1520radio.com every Sunday at 1pm eastern if you have broadband. I am very very proud of the sound quality of our oldies stations webstream. If you follow the directions on site including installing mp3PRO, the station can sound just like a CD (A lower quality stream is available for dialup users.) We're a perfect place to record a lot of great weekend shows... You can also catch "American Top 10 With Casey Kasem" at that same site Saturdays at 9am eastern.
