I do feel the removal of most radio from being local has sped up the listener exodus. I do think DJs in a market, part of the community, and fixtures of the town would help. But alas, CC decided to do the opposite and as they continue to hemorrhage listeners and $$$ they are almost to the point they have no choice but to continue this cycle.m

AT40 is much better now than when it started with Ryan in 2004, with the chart trivia and such. I like Ryan's love and respect for Casey and AT40's legacy, but something's gotta give. You can't give 100% to three different shows at once, and possibly make it four, as ABC is thinking of returning American Idol in 2018, pegging Ryan as the host. www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/american-idol-to-return-on-abc-ryan-seacrest-eyed-to-host/ar-BBALRBe?OCID=ansmsnnews11I think Larry Morgan or Donny Osmond would make a good host of AT40, or better yet a revival of AT20. EDIT: (OK, you need someone hip to connect to the 20-30 somethings, so alright probably not good choices above for AT40 - maybe Nick Cannon? or Carson Daly, Chris Hardwick? Although it can be successfully argued that they all have too much going on) Hell, if they can give Kix Brooks the hosting job of ACC, then anything is possible. Anyone would sound better than him. I must admit though, there are slim pickings of anyone with credibility in the music industry to host, and not doing too many things at once.

Yeah and one of those people with a lot on her plate already is Hailee Steinfeld. Had her on this week's show for the first time since she guest hosted at the start of the year. She's cool. You know she has been on AT40 being interviewed since she was 14. Ryan will have to do for now.

Heard Idol may be coming back on Fox or ABC as soon as Spring 2018 and they want Ryan to continue as host. Does he host it in New York? Stay tuned!

^^ Paul... I hope he does well on Live with Kelly Ripa. He did really well for most of American Idol. There's a reason why he's a star. I would never not want someone to succeed but I don't think AT40 is at its best with Ryan hosting. One thing you said really intrigued me: "We are claiming he is fine as a host and there really isn't a bigger name and better choice for it at this time and hasn't been since he took over." This is what frustrates me about a lot of things. People think we need a "name" in order for something to work. People thought we needed Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to be candidates for the 2016 election... and we got two of the worst presidential candidates ever. Meanwhile, Jeff Probst was an unknown when he started hosting Survivor, and he has been great for the show. No one knew Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, or Ryan when American Idol started... and it received awesome ratings for many, meany years. More recently, James Corden has taken over on CBS' Late Late Show and has gotten noticed with better ratings. I still think a rising star but unknown name nationally could host a show like AT40 and it would do well. I just wish those in NYC or LA didn't always think we needed a name to host or star in something when many undiscovered actors and DJs are ready to shine. As far as two presidential candidates you'll need to speak with voters who elected them in the primaries. I wasn't one of them and I wasn't one of their voters in November. You'll find my ballot bubbled with a 3rd party candidates name and would have bubbled in "write in" followed by most anyone else before I voted for either one of them. Radio is different now than it was years ago. We already have generic, interchangeable voices on local radio all day, all night, and over the weekend. Ryan's name and I'm sorry but his voice because it's recognizable are one of the very, very few who stand out. Like him or not, it does. When he is on I'm not mistaking him for "Jay" or "Rodney" or any other number of voices that sound the same that come on in cities across the country. And the masses aren't going to stop and listen to American Top 40 if it's hosted by "Michael" but hosted by a guy they recognize then yes. There is a reason it's guys like Seacrest and Elvis Duran hosting the IHeartRadio live concerts that air on the radio nationwide. The weight of a name host matters. For what it's worth, giving "Rodney" a chance to host the show doesn't seem like a bad idea to me... :-)

After nearly 47 years, AT40 is moving to New York City. Ryan Seacrest is joining Kelly Ripa as co-host of the morning TV talk show "Live." The show is now "Live with Kelly and Ryan" and Ryan will be in New York City full time now. As of now, his hosting duties with KIIS for the morning show remain unchanged, however as the article states he will not be live during portions of the show. AT40 continues as usual, although for the first time it will now be recorded and based out of New York. "From Hollywood, I'm (insert host here) will be a thing of the past" NY Times article here: www.nytimes.com/2017/05/01/business/media/ryan-seacrest-kelly-ripa-abc-live-host.html?_r=0And Ryan is the one who announced that after 59 years, the Grammys are also moving to New York next year. But for only one year, in commemoration of the 60th Grammy awards. They will be back in LA after that. Never understand how a song 'that is one of the most shazammed songs' has fallen off the countdown. Not surprised and glad they played "Down" however, the song in question.

So in a previous post, I mentioned that Ryan may be starting to spread himself too thin and that the quality of his work might start to weaken given all of his shows. Case in point... on Wednesday's "Live" show. he thought that Jeffrey Tambor was the actor who played in the movie "Ghost". He had him confused with actor Vincent Schiavelli... who died in 2005. Luckily, Jeffrey Tambor had fun at Ryan's expense during the interview. A clip of the interview can be found here: www.moviefone.com/2017/05/17/ryan-seacrest-jeffrey-tambor-mistake/

He could have just been...you know....human and forgot or he or his staff were lazy that day and didn't do research on their guest ahead of time. Again, human. There are EDI files I bring in everyday and once in a blue moon I name them wrong. I'm not perfect. No one is.

There are EDI files I bring in everyday and once in a blue moon I name them wrong. I'm not perfect. No one is. This is what I don't want to have happen to Ryan or any of his shows. Sure, Casey had to make corrections on his show from time to time but... this was a glaring error IMHO.

I think it is a valid argument that Ryan could spread himself too thin, but to compare live television to recorded radio is, in my opinion, apples to oranges. His gaffe on live television might have been a glaring error, but if the show had been recorded we probably never would have even known this had happened. Who knows over the years (with a few glorious exceptions) what errors have been made by Casey, Shadoe, Ryan, or guest hosts as American Top 40 was recorded? Maybe Casey made tons of mistakes, maybe not. All we know is the finished product, which for 40 + years has been given to us by some of the best writers, producers and radio people in the business. Ryan has a ton on his plate, but if AT is on top of their editing and production game the show, and Ryan, will always sound good.

^^ exactly. You have no idea how many errors would have been made on live radio or TV by anyone. But even in edited form, the staff made errors in the script and the host(s) didn't catch them when reading it. I hear them occasionally. Pretty sure I heard "Caseys Hot 40" read by Casey or David Perry for a 1997 CT40 show recently. How many times did Casey say this week the song moves down from number 12 to number 10 or something like that. And will we ever forget David Perry reading "I'm Casey Kasem" on the air? I won't. Things happen but everyone's heroes from years past get a pass while the current guy must be perfect or else.

Steve Harvey, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers all wish their goofs were on the same scale as Ryan's on radio. When he hosts a major awards ceremony and messes up a big winner or falls asleep on camera then we'll know he's spreading himself too thin.
If AT40 were recorded live then it's possible that he might have announced the wrong #1 song sometime, or mangled the title or artist of a correct one. So possibly did Casey and Shadoe. Since that's recorded in advance we won't know (unless a "dead dog dedication" type of outtake leaks) and so is not comparable to screwing up a top-level award.
