Who holds the record for most #11 songs? I know Loggins did it twice with, "This Is It" and "Meet Me Half Way".

Play Me (1972) If You Know What I Mean (1976) Yesterday's Songs (1981) From the "you think you know it all, but then you read something and you realize you have no clue" department: I am shook that "Strange Way" hit 11. I have listened to pretty much every show from 1979 and that has never, and I mean ever, registered. Thanks for your inisght!

I really like that song; thought it was worthy of the top 10. But it wasn't meant to be.

Yep, thanks, I'd already corrected it as 1978 before your reply, then also "Just Remember I Love You" to 1977 and Yesterday's Songs is 1982! PS I forgot about its late '78 peak, should have made sure because that 1979 Top 100 Billboard year-ender where its at #100 was somehow still stuck in my mind.

I had to look up the definition of ersatz… :-) So did I -- great word though! I'm going to start using it now... Probably better than "replacement" or "substitute".

So did I -- great word though! I'm going to start using it now... Probably better than "replacement" or "substitute". Wow--so glad everyone liked 'my' word. Looked up its etymology--though it was probably Yiddish in origin (like 'plotz' or 'shvants'--let's see if the censor catches that one! ), but no, it's roots are just regular ol' German.

Haven't done any research so I might be missing one, but based on the lists already posted, my favorites would be Lido Shuffle, Strange Way, and Head Over Heels. Being #11 is still a big hit, though. I barely missed the top 10 of my HS graduating class. I was 12th, so I know what it feels like to be "so close and yet so far."

My favorite #11 was "The Humpty Dance" by Digital Underground (1990).

The word "Ersatz" in an American forum reminds me of the word "Gesundheit", which in America might still be wished to someone who has just sneezed. This custom dates back to the days of the plague, and at that time meant the wish of the person sneezed on to stay healthy. But nowadays, anyone who wants to express politeness in this way could also put their foot in their mouth instead. After all, the sneezing person is indirectly called sick by the health wish.
