From earlier this year, John Reid of Nightcrawlers was 57 when they charted with “Friday.” Riton, who was also a collaborator on that song, was 42 at the time it charted. Walker Hayes was 41 when he hit with "Fancy Like" last year.

Interesting to note, on a 1984 broadcast of AT40, Casey mentioned something about a surge of solo recording artists in their 40s by that time. This was the norm after Disco Demolition Night in July 1979, and record labels were not willing to take any chances on younger recording artists unless they were part of a group. Of course, that all changed when Debbie Gibson came to town - and paved the way for a new era of younger singers which continues to this day.
Did Sia ever have any top 40 hits? If I recall, she may have been in her 40s when she had her first hit on AT40 (if she did, that is).

Kate Pierson of the B-52's was 41 when "Love Shack" became their first top 40 hit. The rest of the band was in their 30's then.

Kaskade was 41 when he featured on Neon Trees' "Lessons In Love (All Day, All Night)". As a lead artist, he was 48 when he hit with the Meghan Trainor collaboration "With You". Both were top 40 CHR airplay hits.

At 44, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is poised to have her first AT40 hit with "Murder On The Dancefloor," although she recorded it some 22 years ago. The song is #34 on the current Mediabase chart.

While the original release of Alphaville's "Forever Young" failed to hit the top 40 back in the 80's, a new version where they share credit with David Guetta and Ava Max is currently top 40 on pop airplay, giving them their first top 40 hit credit. Marian Gold, their lead singer, is 70.
