I guess just recently WWSW-FM 94.5 (3WS) no longer carries Sunday nights American Top 40: The 70's (The station still carries Sunday mornings American Top 40: The 80's). It is just carrying the normal Classic Hits music in the Sunday night AT40: The 70's time slot.

Here's a Facebook message I got from WWSW 3WS about AT40: The 70's being dropped recently:
"Hi, thanks for reaching out about this. Our agreement to run the 70's version of Casey's show on Sunday nights has ended but you can still catch his 80s shows on Sunday mornings starting at 9am on 3WS."

They still have it listed on their website. Why they don't run the full 4 hour 80s show is beyond me. They opened up the 8am-9am hour last year when they dropped Beatles Brunch. It's silly to carry a show called American Top 40 and have it start every week between 29 and 32.

And there's no different configuration in show length in the 80s as there was in the 70s; all shows are four hours in length. My guess is maybe the station thinks the first hour may be too obscure for them. But, yes, I wouldn't want to listen to part of a show like that. Reminds me of the Flashback series 20 years ago (which I didn't even know about then 😲), that largely only carried Hours 2-4. But back then, the shows weren't largely syndicated and as readily available as they have been for the last fifteen years.

I actually think it's just a laziness issue. They used to run the 70s show in the 9am-12 noon slot. They bumped it to 7pm to replace a local show called "Oldies Diner" which was dropped when Oldies became a dirty word for classic hits stations that were moving out of the 50s and 60s. They just shoved the 80s show in the earlier slot since the three hour version was available. I really don't think it's a content issue. Frankly, they carried the 70s show longer than almost any other larger market station. A three hour 70s show features way more obscure songs than a 4 hour 80s show.

And for the optional first hour for October 1978-end of 1979 4 hour AT40 1970's shows there may be some obscure songs in the optional first hour!

Put WFLI on at about 9:45 ET tonight and they were in the top 3. Then at 10:00 as expected they announced the show was coming on, but started at #14. Not sure what was going on.

Looks like we've lost 'saltrek' on these updates. Nothing from him/her since late Sept. That's too bad.

Looks like we've lost 'saltrek' on these updates. Nothing from him/her since late Sept. That's too bad. Hope saltrek didn't get stricken with COVID. Someone else should start an updated AT40 70's (and AT40 80's) CURRENT station list thread.

Hope saltrek didn't survive COVID. I'm assuming that you meant to say something like saltrek didn't die from COVID. Just changed it to "didn't get stricken with COVID".

Besides the move from 10 pm to 7 pm, WFLI has moved Saturday's show to noon Sunday. WWOW (12 noon Sun) has replaced show with Rock Roll & Remember. Replaced 6 am Sat airing with Greatest Hits USA. KGKS (1 pm Sun) has changed format and dropped show. radioinsight.com/headlines/217219/mike-found-on-cape-girardeaus-river/
