I forgot that no matter who sings the chorus, Robbie does sing it by himself right after the chorus. Good call! jlthorpe, I agree with you on, "Notorious". It is interesting to have those three songs line up on the 1/17/87 show when we have had a problem finding that many songs that even come close to fitting the bill.

Another big hit from the 80's where the artist doesn't sing the title: "Somebody's Watching Me" - Rockwell. The honors go to Jermaine and Michael Jackson.

Lorde's current hit "Green Light" can probably be added to the list.

Possibly "Everyday" by Ariana Grande. I think Future raps "everyday" throughout the song. I'll be interested to hear what the Hot AC version sounds like.

In "Living In America", I don't think James Brown sings the title, but rather, his background singers do.

I came up with another one. The title of "Gangsta's Paradise" is never spoken by Coolio.

What about songs not mentioning the song title in the lyrics, such as: "T.S.O.P." by M.F.S.B. "Annie's Song" by John Denver "Young Turks" by Rod Stewart "Big Log" by Robert Plant

"Annie's Song" by John Denver "Young Turks" by Rod Stewart "Big Log" by Robert Plant That could be a different thread. I was thinking songs where the title is sung, but by someone who isn't credited as the lead/featured artist. Re: "Gangsta's Paradise", I think the title is sung by L.V., who was credited as a featured artist on the song. Re: "Time Is Time", I think if Andy sang the title in the background, it wouldn't count because he's still doing the singing. If Barry was the only background vocalist, then it would count, since he's not credited as an artist on the song.

Listen closely just before the song goes into the fadeout. You'll hear Abbott doing a little whispering rap thing in which he says the title a few times. "C'est La Vie" definitely counts. So do a couple of records that were farther down the chart that week: "To Be a Lover" by Billy Idol, and "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel.

It certainly is there...very softly! And good call on "Lover" and "Big Time". What an interesting week of songs to have so many where the artists didn't sing (or barely sang) the title.

In “I’m Ready” by AJR, they sing, “Are you ready?” But only the sample of SpongeBob SquarePants actually says “I’m Ready,” and he says it about 100 times.

Does Kim Carnes sing "Draw of the Cards" or is it just male backup vocals?

I was reminded of this old thread today when I heard LL Cool J's "Around The Way Girl." Although LL says the words "around the way" several times in the song, the full title is only spoken by backup singers.

I'm not sure if Rick ever sings 'Don't Talk To Strangers', it is just recited in the chorus.
The Immigrant is never sung by Sedaka.

I thought about this thread listening to the 5/29/71 show. Not only does Murray Head hold the AT 40 era record for time between his first and second song, he didn't sing the title on either "Superstar" or "One Night In Bangkok".
