Uff, for me like Jeffster, its 1989-1993 period, I growing up with this. In music terms, 1984-1989, maybe 1990
the 1980-1982 (maybe 83) period, I think that the music in AT 40 is not totally representative. Many romantic and slow songs, more oriented to adult consumers, AOR or soft pop music with names like Kenny Rogers,DanFogelberg,Air Supply, Journey or Christopher Cross reach many times at Top 10 of course, there many exceptions live DEVO,ABC, even BLONDIE with Rapture. But I think that popular acts at that time like POLICE(yeah, I know, they have 6 Top10, including one in Nª1, but is poor for the Nª 1 BAND from this period), THE JAM or DuranDuran (the first two albums) was partially ignorated for american radio at that time thanks
