This is a change from its 2022 airing - last time, they kept the three America's Top Hits that were 90s songs ("The Way", "Vision of Love", "Fields of Gold") while "Last Kiss" was the sole 1999 extra. Of the replacements, not one was even on the R&R chart yet - however, the first two were #1s on other charts (AC and Alternative, respectively). As to the third, this was the week that Wild Wild West arrived in theaters (its title song being found at #8).

WPNC's airing of the Book of Records show (July 5, 1980) had a set of Larry Morgan-voiced optional extras. They were:
Hour #1: "I Can't Stop Loving You" - Ray Charles (artist charted in seven consecutive decades) Hour #2: "Philadelphia Freedom" - Elton John (#1 artist of the 70s according to a 1978 special) Hour #3: "Le Freak" - Chic (#1 disco hit of the 70s, according to 1979 special) Hour #4: "We Can Work It Out" - Beatles (last of six consecutive #1's for the Beatles, and one of 20 overall)

He started in the 1940's. Across all Billboard charts, I think if you count posthumous releases he may have extended that to 8 decades.

Listening to WPNCs rebroadcast of the 1987 year end.
In 50 minutes (6 Eastern) they start 'this week in 1979", which should be the 6/30/1979 show again... so if you missed it last Saturday or midnight Tuesday/Wednesday, here's your chance!
