Here's a song that was originally recorded by a British band named The Zutons in 2006, which reached #9 in their native country. In 2007, the song was covered by Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse, whose version peaked higher than The Zutons' did in Britain, going to #2 in October of that year. Both versions of the song - "Valerie" - have been posted below.

Here's a song appropriate for October 30 and what is considered Devil's Night (also known as Mischief Night and other names) in the U.S. Released by the Swedish duo Dada Life this week in 2013, "Born to Rage" has something in common with the Tommy Facenda song "High School U.S.A." in that multiple personalized versions were created for the song across 39 countries. Posted below is the USA Version, as well as a later remix featuring Sebastian Bach.

An appropriate song for when family members argue over politics at the table on Thanksgiving, "Shut Up" was Kelly Osbourne's follow-up to her Madonna cover "Papa Don't Preach". Released as a single in October 2002 and as the title track of her debut album in November, the song did not find the chart success that "Preach" had earlier in the year, missing both the Billboard and Radio and Records pop charts.

So as I mentioned on Sunday, I was going to do a special theme in this thread on Wednesdays during December. The theme is that every Wednesday, I'll be spotlighting songs from the 2000s that were covers.
This week in 2000, Rage Against the Machine released their covers album Renegades. I've previously posted their Afrika Bambaataa remake "Renegades of Funk" from that album; today, I'm posting their remake of "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones. Fans of the Opie and Anthony radio show will recognize the intro to this song as being played during the opening of O&A for many years during the 2000s.
