3/21/87:Bangles - Walking Down Your Street Eddie Money - I Wanna Go Back Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram - Somewhere Out TherePeter Wolf - Come As You Are Tina Turner - What You Get Is What You See A concert for freedom (and peace)When Ö3 aired the American Top 40 in the 1980s, there was one weekend when AT40 was not broadcast: 7/13/85 - the date of Live Aid. And this weekend Ö3 is also changing its program at short notice and bringing a 12-hour special broadcast to the benefit concert "We Stand With Ukraine" in Vienna´s Ernst Happel Stadium. The concert is already completely sold out with an admission price of 19.91 euros - in reference to Ukraine´s year of independence. The net proceeds benefit the aid organizations "Neighbors in Need" and "Volkshilfe". 10 hours of music on stage - the who´s who of the current Austrian music scene. A marathon event for almost 45,000 spectators in the completely sold-out stadium.
Marco Wanda: "I would like to emphasize that this is not a concert against something, nor is it a political event. It is a concert for freedom and for all people who are suffering from the war in Ukraine - and by that I mean everyone, all parties involved." And here´s my " live"-edition: 3/21/87:Aretha Franklin & George Michael - I Knew You Were Waiting --> liveClub Nouveau - Lean On Me --> liveGeorgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands To Yourself --> liveGlass Tiger - I Will Be There --> liveStarship - Nothing´s Gonna Stop Us Now --> liveTime for an extra: Dean MartinA song about an unlucky man who has a girlfriend waiting for him in America's fourth largest city. 3/30/85:Dan Hartman - Second Nature Journey - Only The Young Mick Jagger - Just Another Night The Cars - Why Can´t I Have YouThe Greg Kihn Band - Lucky Little Odessa
In Brighton Beach, right next to Coney Island, Russians and Ukrainians have been living together peacefully for decades. Russians who are protesting against the war and singing the Ukrainian national anthem. Russia will never be the same, they say. Demonstrators say: "We want Ukraine to be independent and happy. Our best friends live there. It´s unbelievable." There is no Ukrainian side, no Russian side. We are for peace and against suffering and this dirty political game." Angela Kravchenko happens to be passing by. The Ukrainian architect lives with her husband in Brighton Beach. She did not expect the strong solidarity of her fellow citizens of Russian origin. "The war started eight years ago. But the world has turned away. But this support here gives me hope. I hope the war ends soon", she says. That´s what everyone here is hoping for. Little Odessa they call Brighton Beach because it is home to a large number of Russian-speaking immigrants from the south of Ukraine. Freedom Radio, a small radio station in Brighton Beach, informs Russian-speaking New Yorkers. Anton manages the program, writes texts and supports the two reporters. Galina Goldberg is from Belarus, Michael Novaknov from Russia, but has a Ukrainian grandfather. Anton Kalyutich is Russian, his parents work in the Russian army – they believe Russian propaganda. "While I am against it because I have access to the international media, they can only hear official Russian propaganda", says the programme manager. "Difficult."
Everyone at Freedom Radio is against the war and says so clearly. They collect donations for Ukraine. "In New York we don´t ask: where do you come from, from Ukraine ? Or from where ? But it doesn´t matter where you come from, we know we come from", says reporter Galina Goldberg. "We are much more united here than there. This is the real Soviet Union in a good way. Here in the small suburb of Southbrooklyn, all the republics are represented", says reporter Michael Novaknov. After days of reporting on the war, they are now trying to incorporate positive moments. "As someone from Russia, I don´t feel any hatred of Ukrainians. They all know very well: those who came from the old Soviet republics did not want to live there", says Michael.
Sascha Ostashko also works here. He was a political reporter in Odessa for 20 years. He fears a nuclear war. But he doesn´t feel any resentment against his Russian friends here: "Here we are all Americans and not Ukrainians or Russians. All my colleagues understand the situation, they also have a problem with it." The Ukrainian Angela came from Mykolaiv 20 years ago. While the bombs are falling there, she discusses the madness of this war with a Russian friend from Yekaterinburg. "All my friends here, not in Russia, feel the same way. They lose their homes and hope. They fear that soon there will be nothing worth coming back for", says Alexei Postnikov. Both fear for their friends in Russia and Ukraine – their friendship offers some consolation after all. And here´s my " daydreamer"-edtion: 3/30/85:Diana Ross - Missing You Madonna - Crazy For You REO Speedwagon - Can´t Fight This Feeling The Commodores - Nightshift USA For Africa - We Are The WorldTime for an extra: The Les Humphries SingersThe Les Humphries Singers were a 1970s musical group formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1969 by the English born Les Humphries, who had been inspired to do his own version of the Edwin Hawkins Singers. The Les Humphries Singers dissolved at the end of the 1970s, after Humphries had left due to tax liabilities to his English homeland, Alton, Hampshire. In his later years, Humphries led a quiet life in London. In March 2008, a German newspaper reported his death on 12/26/2007 in a London hospital from a heart attack after a severe bout of pneumonia. The group consisted of a large number of singers of diverse ethnic origin, some of whom such as John Lawton also performed with other groups. Another member was Jürgen Drews, who later started a long-running solo career, starting with his 1976 hit in Germany, "Ein Bett im Kornfeld", a cover version of "Let Your Love Flow" by the Bellamy Brothers. Linda Thompson, who had previously been a member of the Cornely Singers and Love Generation, was a member from 1973 to 1974, and later joined Silver Convention, and had a solo career as Linda G. Thompson, sang as a duo with Jerry Rix, and later joined The Hornettes. Henner Hoier, who was a member from 1970 to 1971, had been a member of the Rivets from 1964 to 1968 and of the Rattles from 1968 to 1970. From 1972 onwards, he had a solo career, and from 1988 to 1993 he was a member of the Rattles and from 1994 of the Rivets. He has also composed and produced music, and appeared in the musical Only You. Additional members included Liz Mitchell, later front woman with Boney M., and John Lawton, who also sang for the German progressive/hard rock band Lucifer´s Friend and would go on to be the frontman for Uriah Heep. From 1974 here are The Les Humphries Singers with John Lawton and Kansas City: from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.

A touch of ... Fridays for future
This is definitely not an April Fool´s joke, although some may have initially thought it was an April Fool´s joke. From now on, all local public transport can be used free of charge every Friday in the entire state of Salzburg. The immediate measure is intended to provide an offer for those people who already have a good connection to the public transport network and can change. The campaign is limited to 6/24/2022, the state of Salzburg announced in a broadcast. This means that every Friday from the start of operations to the end of operations you can travel free of charge on all scheduled buses and trains in the local transport system of the Salzburg transport association.
And for all those who do get stuck in traffic, a "greatest hits"-edition:

And it brings far-reaching innovations: Among other things, bike lanes are to be made wider and thus safer in the future. Graz is setting a good example throughout Austria. One important measure is the widening of cycle paths, because not only are there more and more bikes on the road, but also more and more innovative ones, says Klaus Robatsch from the Austrian Road Safety Board: "On the one hand, of course, there are e-bikes, and on the other hand, of course, there are also e-scooters, which have to be taken into account here. Or also the cargo bikes. That means different braking distances, larger curve radii, that means wider facilities for bicycle traffic." In addition to wider bike lanes, it´s recommended that dedicated bike facilities be built in areas with higher car speeds and high traffic volumes. Further, to ensure that bicycles are adequately seen by other road users. And here´s a " greatest hits"-edition for all active and for all future cyclists: 4/11/81 (A):
