Christine McVie - Got A Hold On Me K.C. - Give It Up Kool & The Gang - Joanna The Romantics - Talking In Your Sleep Tina Turner - Let´s Stay Together
A treasure from Roman times
In their search for a connection between former Roman settlements in what is now the Salzkammergut, researchers and archaeologists came across a special treasure: 576 silver coins, around which a thousand-year-old criminal case is entwined. After the discovery around two years ago, the more than 1,800 year old Roman silver coins were cleaned and put on so that scientists can examine them - there are now initial findings, says Ursula Schachinger from the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz: "There are 576 in total Silver coins, two different currencies, the so-called denarii and antoninare, and their value is around 700 denarii. If you consider that a legionnaire's pay is 1,350 denarii per year, that's half of it, and that's a lot." Researchers and archaeologists discovered the coins when they were looking for a paved connection between two Roman settlements in a forest near Pichl-Kainisch in the Styrian Salzkammergut.
At one point there were more than 450 coins that were stacked, says Stefan Groh from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, "at a depth of three quarters of a meter, sometimes only half a centimeter to a centimeter on top of each other." The coin treasure lay undiscovered in the forest floor for over 1,800 years. A cut, petrified finger with a military ring was also found in the same place - therefore the researchers assume that the coins are actually the pay of a Roman soldier who was probably stolen from him.
"This stolen coin treasure was thrown down the slope from the street and then settled in the ground there, but was no longer fetched. This means that we believe that the robber or robbers were also pursued and caught so that they could no longer return to where they disposed of the coin treasure on the run", explains Groh.
So, here´s my "treasure"-edition for this week:
5/24/80 (A):
Billy Joel - It´s Still Rock´n Roll To Me Blondie - Call Me Dr. Hook - Sexy Eyes Lipps Inc. - Funky Town Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall
5/23/87 (B):
David Bowie - Day-In Day-Out Level 42 - Lessons In Love Prince - Sign ´O´ The Times U2 - With Or Without You Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
3/10/84 (guest-host: Charlie Van Dyke):
Culture Club - Karma Chameleon Kenny Loggins - Footlosse Nena - 99 Luftballons Queen - Radio Ga Ga Van Halen - Jump
Time for an extra: The Monotones
Because this song didn´t fit the glam rock sound of their band "Catapult", the members decided to start a new project "The Monotones" - not to be confused with the "Monotones" from the 50s. The debut single "Mono", released in 1979, entered the Dutch, the German and a short time later the Swiss charts at the beginning of 1980. The song is a parody of songs like "Video Killed the Radio Star" and "Pop Muzik".
And don´t forget:
"This record can be played on every modern lightweight pick-up The stereo sound however can be reproduced only when stereo equipment is used"
from my musical category "daydreamer" My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

I went with 5/27/72 as it was posted that was the apparent show for this weekend. I fixed my list with "Back Off Boogaloo" being the only cross-out with none of the three debuts from 6/3/72 making my list. Glad to know you are keeping an eye on my lists! You can also probably tell when I do my lists at work .

5/28/83:Culture Club - Time Duran Duran - Rio Kajagoogoo - Too Shy Madness - Our House Sergio Mendes - Never Gonna Let You GoEdi Finger JuniorThe native of Klagenfurt (Carinthia) achieved what few do: He successfully followed in the footsteps of his father as a sports reporter. He became a legend with his radio report of the soccer World Cup game between Germany and Austria (2:3) in Cordoba, Argentina in 1978: "Goal, goal, goal, I´m going to be foolish" - Like his great role model, Edi Finger Junior also managed to become a sports reporter legend. Edi Finger Junior began his own career in the mid-1960s and captured unforgettable moments at many ski and soccer events for many decades. He was not only known as an original in the sports business, but also on the social scene because of his humor. Regardless of the topic, he always commented with a sharp tongue. Edi Finger Junior would also have been in action at the upcoming European Football Championship. The 72-year-old died unexpectedly on Friday night. ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz praised the live reporter as "the personified enthusiasm for sport among Austrians. Like his father´s, his passionate comments went down in Austrian sports history. He will be remembered for a long time for that." First, here´s my "daydreamer"-edtion:
5/28/83:
Bryan Adams - Straight From The Heart Jarreau - Mornin´ Kenny Rogers - All My Life Lionel Richie - My Love Toto - I Won´t Hold You BackEdi Finger Junior also took part in the ORF-dance show "Dancing Stars" in 2006, so this week there´s also a " danceable greatest hits" edition: 5/28/83:David Bowie - Let´s Dance Dexy´s Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Elton John - I´m Still Standing Irene Cara - Flashdance ... What A Feeling The Kinks - Come Dancing Time for an extra: Indeep"There´s not a problem that I can´t fix ´Cause I can do it in the mix" No question, this song is cult, even if it´s very reminiscent of "Another One Bites The Dust" - Indeep with "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

My Shooda Dun Betr Picks for this week are two songs I guarantee you will never, ever, ever hear back to back on any radio station... "Under The Milky Way" and "The Last Farewell". The former is a fave from the modern rock world while the latter is a fave from the land of adult contemporary. I may be the only person who gets enthralled hearing French horns and violins kick off Roger Whittaker's tune while thoroughly enjoying the guitars and the EBow (bagpipe sounding instrument) on The Church's tune:

I completely understand! I have always done the A shows but not the B shows because... I just want to do one list per week? Kudos to you for doing multiple lists each week. Trying to pick my Top 10 from five '90s shows was too time consuming 😁. On a different note... I looked up how my Pick Hits fared on Radio & Records. "Just For Tonight" peaked at #7 while "You Don't Have To Go Home Tonight" cracked the Top 10 at #10. "Sleeping Satellite" topped out at #12 while "Love Sneakin' Up On You" made it to #18 on R&R. Meanwhile, "Expression" failed to make Radio & Records' Top 40... go figure!

6/7/86:38 Special - Like No Other Night Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Like A Rock
Level 42 - Something About You Mr. Mister - Is It Love The Outfield - Your Love The dream of the own surfboardPaul Mittermeier from Tulln an der Donau (Lower Austria) is living his dream. A little more than six years ago, his passion for surfing caught him and prompted him to quit his job and build his own surfboards in his garage. At first glance, there is nothing on Paul Mittermeier´s property to indicate that Lower Austria´s only surf garage is located here. His single-family house fits seamlessly into the landscape. When you enter his garage, you immediately feel a special atmosphere. The walls are peppered with photos of surfers and waves, boards are neatly lined up against the wall, and there is a smell of epoxy resin. "I surfed Fuerteventura for the first time six years ago. That was the first sport that put me under its spell from the start. I kept going there until both my money and my vacation were exhausted. Then I sat at home and thought I could build my own surfboard," Paul Mittermeier smiles.
It took months of research and hard work before he could hold his first board and surf it. He´ll never forget the feeling of being on the water with his own board for the first time. "Pursuing my passion with something that I have built myself is something unique," the "Shaper" enthuses. Through friends and acquaintances his boards became more and more popular and well known. In the meantime he´s already working to full capacity in his production. The decision to put it all on one card paid off for him. "None of this would have been possible without the support of my family. In the beginning there were also skeptical voices when I quit my job. I thought to myself: If I don´t do it now, I´ll never find out whether it would have worked. Accordingly, I approached the matter with a lot of passion and commitment," says the young entrepreneur. Each board is unique and is individually adapted to the surfer. The boards are usually tested in front of the house on the Danube. Nevertheless, Paul Mittermeier is always drawn to the sea. "It´s cool to be able to surf on the doorstep, but I feel a great urge to come to the seaside regularly." Those who love what they do don´t need to work a day. A principle that Mittermeier embodies. And who has a large share in the special atmosphere in his garage. ... which brings me to my current " surf"-edition: 6/7/86:Culture Club - Move Away Falco - Vienna Calling Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone Mike & The Mechanics - All I Need Is A Miracle Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams And speaking of "Vienna Calling": You can also surf directly in Vienna, more information at www.danubesurfer.com/Time for an extra: Big CountryMaybe with a bit of "folk" touch and back then it was not uncommon to find it in record stores under "Country".
