Thanks so much for this listing. Very surprised that the Impressions did not make the Countdown.

That's a definite omission-The Impressions had some fabulous songs such as "It's All Right","People Get Ready" & "We're A Winner".

I am surprised that "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler didn't make the top 50.

I am surprised that "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler didn't make the top 50. It was artists that were counted down, and apparently Gene Chandler not having other hits kept him out of the Countdown.

The survey date was in fact 2-27-61, and another fast show, which ended at 4:12 pm EST. Next week is 1964, and the British are not just coming, they are here on the Countdown. Breakthrough hits by Dusty Springfield and the Dave Clark Five and of course 5 songs from the Beatles, but one labeled w/Tony Sheridan. I based this on the assumption that it will be survey date of 3-7-64, but recently when Dave did 1965, he jumped to 2-13-65 on the show of 2-5-22.
Suspiciously 1967 and 1969 are avoided due to Turtles ban?

I'm inclined to think that next week's countdown will be from 3/7/64 as well.

The Beatles collaboration with Tony Sheridan was "My Bonnie"-It was originally recorded in 1962-Here in America,"My Bonnie" was released on MGM Records-Interesting piece of trivia:The only other person to recieve label credit on a Beatles hit was Billy Preston-That was for "Get Back" which went to # 1 in the spring of 1969.

I can't believe that Sirius/XM are still unwilling to lift their Turtles ban-It is my understanding that Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan lost their court case.

Well, what I don't understand if why one song by the Turtles disallows an entire show, and for many weeks at that! If I were doing a show from 3-4-67, I would play song 22, then skip over "Happy Together" at 21, and go right to song 20. We would end up with 39 songs, but just replace another song below the Top 40.

March is National Women's History Month-I wonder if next week's countdown was listener voted.
