Perhaps if Dave does a second 1970 show, he'll include that song. That's the plan for later this month, according to Lou Simon.

Today was a most unexpected countdown, but loved it all the same. It featured the Top 40 Solo Hits from January to June of 1970. Surprised that #2 was Instant Karma as it peaked at #3 and spent 13 weeks on the Hot 100, yet Ray Stevens, Everything Is Beautiful was #1 for 2 weeks, and spent 17 weeks on the Hot 100. It ranked at #3 on the Special Countdown of Solo Hits. For 1970 yearend, Instant Karma was #34 for the year as Everything is Beautiful was #12. Both songs had all their points within the year (no overlaps from previous or into the next year). Not to split hairs, but isn't John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band considered a group vs. solo artist? Next week: 1968, which is breaking the consecutive years of 1960 to 1965 all featured this Spring. Likely feature date will be 6-15-68. If they return to consecutive years, then in June we could have 1968, 1969, and a 1970 show Lou Simon has alluded to the last weekend of the month--just in time for Casey's 1970 shows to re-enter the 70s on 7 rotation.

So next week is 1968. Wonder why Dave didn't do 1966 next? (We all know 1967 was skipped for Turtles reasons...)

1966 was played in April, and 1968 hasn't been played since 2-27-21.

Uh, oh, has Dave Hoeffel been hanging out with Mark, Nina, and Alan from the "VJ Big 40 Countdown"? Because on this week's Satellite Survey, Dave made a major error worthy of those three VJ's two doors down on the dial. When introducing Tommy James' "Mony, Mony", Dave commented that Billy Idol's studio cover version made it to #7 in 1981. One of my Billboard reference books says it bubbled under at #107 that year. (Of course, Billy's live version went to #1 in 1987.) Maybe Dave saw the 7 and not the 10 before the 7.

I'm sure Dave mentioned that Tommy Chong was a member of Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers before he teamed up with Richard "Cheech" Marin to form the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong.

I'm sure Dave mentioned that Tommy Chong was a member of Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers before he teamed up with Richard "Cheech" Marin to form the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Yep and said they fired him, then wanted him back, but he declined to take the job back.

The Peppermint Trolley Company are better known for recording the original version of the theme song from "The Brady Bunch".

I wonder how many songs will be featured--the show has had Top 40, sometimes 50 and even 60 songs in a show. I know domination of the R&B hits will be Aretha Franklin and of course Motown Legends--Four Tops, Temptations, Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. If "The Twist" is considered R&B, I predict that to be #1.

Kinda doubtful "The Twist" would appear on that survey.

The Twist did appear , and it was a listener voted countdown. The show did The Top 60 R&B songs of he 60s, and most shockingly is a song in the Top 10 that only peaked at #47 on the Billboard Hot 100 . It lasted exactly three hours, which I believe might be a record as normally the shows end no later than 4:30 EST. Next week is Part 2 of January to June 1970 hits which will feature groups and I think duos as well. If it is duos I think we know what #1 will be !

Will definitely check out this week's show-Happy to hear that Dave is doing a follow up to the early 70's countdown from two weeks ago.

This was a listener voted show so how a song did chart wise isn't much of a factor. There were a few surprises. I thought I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Respect would have been higher than they were. Pleasantly surprised that Apples,Peaches,Pumpkin Pie was heard,it's a great underrated song. Overall it was pretty good.
