doofus67,It was Bobby Vee not Bobby Bee who recorded "Come Back When You Grow Up". Oh well. Never claimed to be a genius. But wouldn't Bobby Bee and Spyder Turner make cool duet partners? Thanks, Mr. J.

I don't know if you all have noticed, but this is the third year in a row that Dave Hoeffel has done a special countdown in the spring involving the year 1967. (Two years ago he counted down the Top 40 songs of that year by female-fronted acts, and last year he counted down the Top 40 songs of that year by British acts.) And the spring and early summer of 1967 (a twenty-week time span, to be exact) is precisely the time period that the Turtles were continuously present in the Top 40. You don't suppose that Dave Hoeffel puts together these special shows precisely to throw the listeners a 1967 bone to make up for the not airing regular '67 shows for such a long period?

That is quite possible, slf. Very observant! I do believe Dave can do a 1969 countdown next week since "You Showed Me" by the Turtles "crawls" out of the Top 40 in late March. 1960 and 1969 are the only two years that have not been featured in 2021. It is very possible that 1960 may be too dated for a countdown, but we will see. As I barely remember 1960 music, the Summer had great hits: Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Bobby Rydell, Brian Hyland and Chubby Checker.
As far as 1967 goes it will be late July since "She'd Rather Be With Me" spent its last week in the Top 40 on 7-22-67.
Interesting note: "Happy Together" spent its last week in the Top 40 on 5-20-67, and the very next week, 5-27-67, "She'd Rather Be With Me" debuted on #39.

doofus67,It was Bobby Vee not Bobby Bee who recorded "Come Back When You Grow Up". A LOL moment--Bee is a word but Vee isn't so it probably wasn't even highligted as needing correction.

Darn auto-correct...can't say how many times I've caught a word that I typed changed into something totally different. Most of the time I catch it...but it sure is annoying.

Finally 1969! Only Crimson and Clover was played 52 years ago in December 2020. I was listening to WABC in 1969, and the station would not play "Snatching It Back" because of the connotation related to female anatomy! IMO some really absurd thinking!
Three Dog Night and Herman's Hermits have something in common--their first singles did not make the Top 10, but major Top 10 hits did follow!

THE 60s SATELLITE SURVEY
Using the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending 3/29/69
Once Dave played "Grapevine" as the #1 song in the British chart, it occurred to me that this show was sounding familiar. Sure enough, this same chart has been used each year since Dave became the host in the fall of '18. Yes, it was the first week without those kooky Turtles, but from this point on they would never return to the top 40.
I'm listing only today's extras. The 40 charted records can be seen on either page 6 or page 17 of this thread.
After #35: MY WAY...Frank Sinatra [highest debut on Hot 100] After #30: TIME IS TIGHT...Booker T. & the MG's [highest charting instrumental] After #29: LONG GREEN...The Fireballs [staff pick] After #26: TO KNOW YOU IS TO LOVE YOU...Bobby Vinton [Bubbling Under] After #21: WHO'S GONNA MOW YOUR GRASS...Buck Owens & the Buckaroos [#1 country] After #16: I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE...Marvin Gaye [#1 in the UK] After #10: BLESSED IS THE RAIN...The Brooklyn Bridge Featuring Johnny Maestro [staff pick] After #4: BORN ON THE BAYOU...Creedence Clearwater Revival [Fabulous Flip Side]

Could someone ask Dave not to chose the same chart date two years in a row ? there are so many other dates to pick .

I noticed that myself and e-mailed Lou Simon about it. He says, "I didn't realize that consistency. In 2022, send me a note in January and remind me to do something else in late March and I'll be happy to comply!!"

Could someone ask Dave not to chose the same chart date two years in a row ? there are so many other dates to pick . I think he realized how delayed a countdown from 52 years ago had been, and went with the very first opportunity to do a 1969 countdown. This was the first week that "You Showed Me How" by the Turtles was off the Top 40. I don't know if he will do a countdown from 1960, which is the only year that has not been done in 2021. Other than 1960, all years from 1961 to 1969 have been completed along with a few specials since January.
