9/14/85 is not really a significant show in terms of Casey's career or AT40 overall; what makes it stand out was not heard by anyone until a while later, and it's of note mostly as a bit of embarrassing comic relief, and perhaps Casey's ability to admit to having a volatile temper and laugh off the incident. It may speak more of our current culture than anything else that a lot of people retrospectively think that 76 or so seconds of off-the-record cussing and fussing is a big deal or some kind of great entertainment. 1988-89 is noteworthy as kind of a transitional time, as are 1998 and 2003-04. So to make the Casey/AT40 story complete it's worth at least touching on those periods, regardless of their musical quality. While true that 9/14/85 is not a particularly significant show, I think your statement, "(I)t's of note mostly as a bit of embarrassing comic relief, and perhaps Casey's ability to admit to having a volatile temper and laugh off the incident" is why you might see it in a special or something like that. I will admit I did go back through the thread to my first post and said include 9/14/85, but with the ranting and raving spliced in. I will now scratch that. Summing it up: A radio special on Casey's life and career, where bloopers and so forth are included, yes. Airing the entire show -- scratched. Brian

I thought a bit more and added 5 shows to my personal tribute. However, he isn't hosting any of them. No, this is not a "let's remember all the great guest hosts and all" because that is very unimportant in this time, at least to me. His company however created other shows, 1 continues to this day. I've included 3 ACC shows w/Bob Kingsley (Top 40 of the 80s, Top 40 Acts of all time, and some random 1981 show) and then 2 AT20 shows that Mike Kasem filled in...1 is his first time which I believe was November 2007, and then the show from Fathers Day 2008.

I'll second that, by adding a few ACC shows as well, since it was the brains of Casey Kasem, Tom Rounds and Don Bustany that created this show, which continues on. * Same as with AT40/Casey's Top 40, I'll put in the Nov. 10, 1973, and Jan. 24, 1998 shows, the first as the show is a work in progress under first host Don Bowman, the second during the height of Bob Kingsley. * To compliment the "Top 40 of the 1980s," I'll do the same show they did when reviewing the 1970s: "ACC's Top 40 Hits of the 1970s." There's also a couple of early specials -- an earlier "Top 40 Hits of the 1970s -- So Far" that was done in the fall of 1974 (I believe the same weekend as the AT40 "Top Producers of the 1970s" special), and "Top 40 Acts of All Time" (also from 1974) -- that might be worth listening to. Both helmed under Bowman, who was one of Kasem's close friends at one point. * Just to represent Kix Brooks, one of his more recent shows ... moreso to showcase the show's longevity and staying power, and compare and contrast the early days with how the show sounds nearly 41 years later. Got to admit that's impressive. Brian P.S.: Did Kingsley also host a later version of the "Top 40 Acts of All Time," in addition to the one aired, as ACC's first-ever special, in April 1974? I also believe Kingsley hosted at least three "Book of Records" specials ... the first coming in 1983 (to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show), then updated in 1988 (for the show's 15th anniversary) and again in the spring of 1998 (for the 25th year).

My personal music tribute shows are 1/23/71, 1/23/82 and 1/23/88, as each Casey-hosted AT40 falls on my birthday.

I believe you are the first person who understood this thread. Thank you, and cool.

Day 1 of my tribute is over. Got through 4 shows. The rest of the "tribute" phase is put on hold as tomorrow starts a new week of shows for me. I've posted this at least twice here today. The ultimate tribute Casey would want is "the show to go on." So while my remembrance of him will continue until this tribute is over and I will listen to the shows I posted in this thread, it pauses as I listen to the shows I do every week from 40, 30, 20, and 10 years ago.
