I'm sure there was a misunderstood LDD of John Waite's "Missing You" at some time, probably requested it because of the title but no regard to subject matter (I ain't missing you at all). This is an old post, but I found (at least) one show where this happened: the 2/1/1986 show had a LDD where a girl dedicated it to her drug-addicted friend who was sent to rehab. The other two songs from the 80s with that title would have been much more appropriate. I've noticed that Casey often didn't include the artist when introducing LDDs and reading the letters. Maybe that was because the letters often didn't include an artist, only the song title, and maybe this person intended it to be Diana Ross or even Dan Fogelberg.

I think they usually tried to contact the letter writer in situations where something was unclear, such as if they asked for a song just by title when there were multiple potential similarly-titled choices, or different versions of the same song, or they got the title wrong (the request for "Welcome To Hard Life" comes to mind). Which wasn't always necessarily foolproof....

I remember an October 1983 countdown when "Every Breath You Take", in its last charting week, was an LDD from parents to their son who needed assistance breathing. Evidently they didn't recognize the full meaning of the verse lyrics, but the title and chorus at least seemed appropriate. Bumping this thread after a year to quote a nearly 10-year-old post because we'll be hearing this on the 10/15/1983 show this weekend.

This is old, but I have a reply to two of these: A young boy who was teased by his classmates for having braces requests "Fire" since the taunting is like "going through fire.' I was all set to hear the Ohio Players, but up popped the Pointer Sisters instead! This one was on the 5/12/1979 show. And one more was from a girl with a middle eastern sounding name, missing her boyfriend with an equally middle eastern name, and if you do the math, it appears they were making love at age 15! It made me laugh to hear Casey read that one! This one aired a week later. I'm hearing this on the Classic AT40 channel right now and did the math on the current ages given: She was 14 and he was 17 when they first met.

Hope this isn't too off topic, but SiriusXM 70's on 7 is now playing a doctored version of the Pointer Sisters' "Fire." After the line "I turn on the radio" they have edited in female singers with "to totally 70's."
I hate so much of what they do! It has been, what, a decade since that channel was self-touted as "Totally 70's." So not only does it ruin the song, it also is so outdated.
"Congratulations," as Paul Rudd would say. "You're stupid for two reasons!"

In this week’s 1984 show a Grandson dedicated “Every Breath You Take” by The Police? Why you ask? Because the Grandfather had trouble breathing 🙄. Another case of not paying attention to the lyrics.

OMG that sounds like someone was trolling with that letter. It makes me wonder how many letters were received that were intentionally weird just to see if they could get on the show with them. Totally made up. Maybe not this one, but there must have been some. It's a pretty funny idea, actually.
