Something that I just thought of: Are there any songs that mention other Top 40 hits in which the title is not mentioned?
The recently mentioned song "Grillz" by Nelly almost fits the bill, as the song he refers to, "Country Grammar" is only mentioned once in the song. But I was wondering how many songs without the title in the lyrics are referred to in other songs by the same artist.

It wasn't a Top 40 hit, but do you mean something like The Beatles' "Glass Onion"? It refers to several other Beatle hits - some by name, others not. For example, "I Am the Walrus" is referred to without mentioning the whole title: "I told you about the walrus and me, man/You know we're as close as can be, man/Well here's another clue for you all/The walrus was Paul."

I'll include a awful current hit as Meghan Trainor's "Lips Are Movin" mentions her even worse debut song "All About That Bass" Prediction these will be her only Top 40 hits & in a year or two she will be forgotten. Well, she did end up having a few more hits after that - most notably "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" and "No.". But in the past 4 years, she's not had any top 10's, but minor top 40 hits. Still ended up having a better discography than predicted - and she may not be done yet as she's still got potential to hit again.
